Purpose of the role

  • To lead on and meet the targets of the Sussex Learning Network Collaborative Outreach Project (SLN:COP) in East Sussex
  • To raise both the aspirations and attainments of young people from disadvantaged (NCOP postcode) backgrounds who are currently under-represented in higher education.
  • To strengthen partnerships between higher education, further education, schools and training providers.
  • To develop partnerships with target schools/colleges and Sixth Forms to deliver a programme of progressive outreach activities typically from Year 12 through to Year 13 (working in partnership where appropriate with ESCC on Year 10-11 outreach)

Line management responsibility for:

Peer progression coaches and liaison coaches at Sussex Downs College

Main areas of responsibility:

  • Oversee the identification of the local NCOP target cohort group including classroom and work based learners and establish robust reporting and tracking mechanisms.
  • Establish and cultivate excellent relationships with schools, colleges and Sixth Forms in the NCOP wards and establish strong working relationships with designated lead contacts where there are NCOP pupils/students.
  • Develop a post-16 NCOP intervention and support programme that complements existing activity as per East Sussex project activities – Spring and Summer events; campus tours; taster sessions; D of E activities & Enterprise programmes.
  • Develop and deliver community engagement projects and events and collaborate with SLN-COP central team on the cross-cutting strand projects.
  • Work alongside the relevant teams at Sussex Downs College and Sussex Coast College Hastings in order that NCOP activities complement the schools and college engagement work that is already taking place.
  • Develop programme with the Innovation Team at Sussex Downs College and deliver a Passport to HE via digital badges.
  • Work with ESCC to support the roll out of the Employability Passport to Year 10+ students across East Sussex.
  • Lead on the development of events to engage parents and teachers appointing and managing additional Liaison Coaches subject to demand. Provide accurate information, advice and guidance to teachers and parents on potential student pathways.
  • Oversee the project’s peer mentoring scheme (peer progression coaches) and Bursary programme putting place monitoring and tracking mechanisms. Prepare materials for presentations and activities ensuring that suitable materials and resources are available to support peer progression coaches
  • Responsible for planning, monitoring, analysing and evaluating the NCOP local programme data, including updating HEAT and liaising with the NCOP Research and Evaluation Manager and Data Officer.
  • Manage the overall project budget and associated resources and lead on project evaluation.
  • Respond to all appropriate localised SLN:COP activity including supporting widening participation activities with ESCC
  • Represent the College and/or the Sussex Learning Network at School and College based progression, careers and HE Fairs

  • Any appointment is generally made at the bottom of the salary range for the grade dependent upon experience and previous salary.
