Abortion Services in Buckinghamshire

Buckinghamshire PCT has a contract with the British Pregnancy Advisory Service (bpas) to provide an abortion service for women living in Buckinghamshire and/or who are registered with a GP within the Buckinghamshire PCT area.

Referral Process:

·  All women have to be registered with a Buckinghamshire GP or be resident within Buckinghamshire to qualify for an NHS referral to the service, this can be through a GP, Family Planning Service, Brook Young People’s Advisory Service or self referral

·  Women will normally need to make at least 2 visits to BPAS (one for initial Consultation and then a further visit or visits depending on the treatment chosen).

·  Women can self refer.

·  The BPAS Action Line for referrals is 08457 30 40 30.

·  Women can choose where they wish to go for consultation depending on appointment availability and location.

·  At consultation she will have the opportunity to discuss pregnancy options and be given relevant treatment options should she decide to proceed.

·  The termination may not take place at the same location as the consultation, see attached table.

Note:

·  Please refer to the leaflet ‘Considering Abortion’ for information on treatment types.

·  All women who undertake a termination at a bpas clinic should be given follow-up contraception.

·  Travel costs are not available
