Terms and Conditions

Below is a general outline of the Terms and Conditions for this post. Full terms and conditions would be included following any offer of employment.

Type of Appointment

Permanent, Full Time

Location

The Place2Be’s Core Hub, Islington, London EC1V 2PT.

Probationary Period

6 months’ probationary period with a formal appraisal in the sixth month.

Salary

Circa £40,000 per annum.

Hours of Work

36 hours per week, worked between 8.30am and 5.30pm from Monday to Friday.

Annual Leave

25 days per annum, plus public holidays’ entitlement.

Please note that employees with more than 3 years of service are eligible to 27 days of annual leave pro rata, and those with over 5 years of service are eligible to 30 days of annual leave pro rata.

Pension

Employees are eligible to join Place2Be pension scheme after three full months of service. The Place2Be contributes 3% of your salary into the scheme; employees may contribute as from 3% of their salary per financial year. A free session is available with our financial advisers to help plan your pension needs.

Childcare Vouchers

We run an approved childcare voucher scheme which offers income tax and National Insurance contribution savings when paying for child care.

Cycle Scheme/Season Ticket Loans

We offer interest-free loans for buying a season ticket or purchasing a bicycle to assist our staff with reducing the cost of travelling to work.

Eye Care Vouchers

We provide eye care vouchers entitling you to a free annual eye test. This scheme fulfils our legal obligations under the Health and Safety at Work Act for staff using Display Screen Equipment. If staff require glasses because of their use of a DSE then an additional voucher pays for a basic pair of glasses.

Training and Development

Place2Be offers a central development programme for all staff and provide a range of training opportunities as part of employee’s individual personal development plan.

Job title:Trusts and Grants Manager

INTRODUCTION

The Place2Be’s mission is to enhance the wellbeing and prospects of children and their families by providing access to therapeutic and emotional support in schools, using a proven model backed up by research and training. The organisation places counsellors in schools to help children tell their stories, explore their feelings and build their coping mechanisms. The Place2Be is currently operating in 200 schools supporting75,000 children and young people across the UK.

The Place2Be has grown considerably over the last fifteen years and has an exciting and ambitious vision and expansion plans for the years ahead. The Trusts and Grants Manager is an important senior role within the fundraising team to support achievement of that vision by securing sustainable funding, primarily from charitable trusts and foundations. Excellent organisational and writing skills and attention to detail; adapting writing styles for different audiences; experience of researching grant programmes; producing comprehensive applications, proposals and reports; the ability to multi-task; managing multiple priorities and working to tight deadlines are all essential.

ACCOUNTABILITY

Responsible to: Head of Fundraising

SCOPE AND LIMITS OF AUTHORITY

  • Development and implementation of the trust and statutory fundraising strategy
  • Working to generate funds towards an agreed income target
  • Developing effective relationships with trusts and statutory contacts and managing funders
  • Line management of the Trusts and Grants Officer

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Trust fundraising

  • Contributing towards the achievement of The Place2Be’s fundraising strategy and Business Plan by researching charitable trusts and foundations and ensuring the submission of timely, targeted applications and reports.
  • Writing compelling, detailed, tailored fundraising applications and reports for trusts and foundations, including comprehensive applications and monitoring forms, maintaining very high standards of accuracy at all times.
  • Adapting writing styles and information ensuring suitability for the target audience at all times whilst being aware of regional differences and terminology.
  • Preparing applications and reports for new projects, working closely with project and finance staff to gather information and develop proposals and supporting documentation.
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with key charitable trusts and foundations.
  • Assisting with the submission of applications and reports to central Government statutory sources as required.
  • Ensuring charitable trust and foundation donations are promptly and appropriately thanked.
  • Overseeing a rolling programme of applications to smaller grant-makers.

2. Monitoring and reporting

  • Managing the reporting process for charitable trusts and foundations, highlighting deadlines and gaining input from department heads as appropriate to produce high quality reports, ensuring all grants are drawn down and reported on to a high professional standard and in a prompt and timely manner.
  • Contributing to quarterly Trustees reports, monitoring income from trusts and foundations on a monthly basis and reporting against agreed key performance indicators as required by the Head of Fundraising.

3. Researching funding opportunities

  • Developing a thorough understanding of the profile of current trust funders and The Place2Be’s relationship with them, including the need for reports and updates.
  • Developing profiles of potential trust funders including how and why they might support The Place2Be, building relationships and submitting applications as appropriate.
  • Identifying and pursuing opportunities for existing trust funders to continue their support as well as ways for new funders to become involved.
  • Using a variety of publications/newsletters to keep abreast of relevant policy and funding streams and understanding The Place2Be’s relationship to them.

4. Team working

  • Working closely with the Head of Fundraising to identify and pursue fundraising opportunities from charitable trusts and foundations.
  • Contribution as a key member of the team to the overall fundraising strategy.
  • Building relationships with staff from across The Place2Be to ensure a comprehensive knowledge of the organisation and our front-line work as well as identifying fundraising opportunities.
  • Developing good working relationships with both head office and regionally based staff as well as an appreciation of different working practices.

6.Fundraising administration

  • Liaising with Finance to ensure grants have been received and grants are allocated and/or restricted accordingly.
  • Supporting analysis of fundraising performance.

FLEXIBILTY

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Degree or equivalent.
Considerable proven experience of raising significant income from trusts and foundations
Considerable proven experience of developing and maintaining long-term funding relationships with trusts and foundations
Experience of designing and implementing a strategy to raise funds from trusts and foundations
Excellent, compelling writing skills, analytical, methodical, able to produce accurate work to a high professional standard.
Very high standard of written English including punctuation and grammar.
Ability to write applications, regular formal progress reports and prepare budgets to a very high standard.
Excellent comprehension skills – ability to process complex information and make it accessible to different audiences.
Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to communicate with a wide range of people both internally and externally in person, by phone and electronically.
Ability to plan, prioritise and meet multiple deadlines and a busy workload.
Ability to use own initiative. Energetic, pro-active; a self starter who can work in a self directed environment; flexible team player.
Experience of line management and in developing and optimising performance of reports
Good working knowledge of MS Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, Powerpoint) and knowledge of databases.
Ability to be firm but diplomatic, to understand different points of view whilst operating within organisational policies and procedures.
