Ratcliffe College Policy on University Visits

This policy has been written for all Sixth Form students only

It is very important that students should make informed decisionsabout careers and Higher Education. As such, Ratcliffe College encourages and supports Sixth Form students to visit Universities as part of the process toselect the right course at the right university.

Striking a balance between such visits and honouring commitments at School –in terms of lesson attendance and supporting sports fixtures – can become a significant issue for some students. To assist all parties concerned, Sixth Form students, with the support of their parents and teachers, should note the following:

  1. Students may arrange a maximum of two visits in any academic term; clearly, there is no upper limit during School Holidays.
  2. When you can visit:

One of these two visits may be mid-week; with the other on a Saturdayif the student is a Sports Team player, and only then with two weeks’ written notice to the coach, copied to the Head of Sixth Form andDirector of Sport;

or both visits may be mid-week;

or both visits may be on a Saturday if the student is NOT a potential Sports Team player.

  1. No more than five students may visit the same university mid-week.
  2. No more than two students (if Sports Team players) may visit the same university on a Saturday, and only then with two weeks’ written notice to the coach, copied to the Head of Sixth Form and Director of Sport.
  3. Students will not be permitted to attend any university visits if staff inform the Head of Year or Head of Sixth Form that there is concern over poorly completed, late or missing work.
  4. Students and parents should be aware that visits are logged on a spread sheet by Sixth Form Staff to ensure that everyone is treated fairly.
