Market Intelligence Assistant– Full Time (Flexible working can be discussed)
The International Meat Trade Association (IMTA) is based in Smithfield, London and represents companies trading meat around the world. Our members require tailored information and rely on us to develop policy positions which are presented to government authorities in the UK and Brussels. The role would involve working closely in a very interdependent team of a CEO, Policy Director, Policy Manager, and Office Administratorsupported by the Chairman and the Board. IMTA works closely with the European meat association UECBV and maintains regular direct contact with the European Commission in Brussels, embassies and international organisations.
The ideal candidate will have a good grasp of economic principles. This teamed with a keenness to learn about the international meat trade and apply these principles to analyse trends and support policy work.
The post will provide the opportunity for the candidate to develop their skills within a specific dynamic sector of the food industry. Working in a small team you will have the opportunity to propose ideas and projects and see them through to fruition making it a very rewarding role as you will be able to see the direct impact of your contribution.
The post requires the ability to work on one’s own but at the same time interact effectively with members. There will be opportunities for training and the candidate will have scope to develop the role and take on additional responsibility. If the candidate does not have a background in the sector opportunities for training will be provided to develop understanding.
Job Description:
- Market intelligence – monitoring and analysing key market trends, keeping statistical information up to date.
- Producing market reports and briefings on key trends for members.
- Identifying statistics that would be useful to members and producing materials to present these in a concise, clear and accurate manner.
- Making suggestions for research/statistical projects which back up policy work. Contributing to policy development by identifying/producing statistical analysis to inform it.
- Making presentations on market trends to IMTA members and other relevant forums where appropriate.
- Daily news on website – monitoring key market intelligence (both statistical and non-statistical) for news items to be sent to members.
- Meeting reports –attending relevant market outlook conferences and other meetings in the UK and occasionally Brussels.
- A future part of the role will be attending meetings on behalf of the association and representing the views of members.
- Mediamonitoring& monitoring activities of the European Parliament, FSA and others
- Admin tasks
- Other duties as required.

Person Specification:
Essential:
- Minimum of 2.2in an undergraduate degreein economics (or equivalent discipline) Or equivalent experience
- Must enjoy using statistics and spreadsheets
- High level of attention to detail
- Good knowledge of MS Office Programs –very good command of MS Excel, MS Word and MS Powerpointessential.
- Good IT skills
- Fluency in English
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Flexibility/adaptability to take on different tasks as required
- A good ability to organise and prioritise own workload
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to develop good stakeholder relationships.
- Strong self-motivation
- Demonstrable initiative – to suggest projects and contribute ideas
- Strong team work skills

- Languages
- Knowledge of the agriculture sector
Salary: £27,000, with view to progression subject to responsibility.

Task:
As a trade association a large part of our role is to provide information to members which is relevant and timely. Our members need information that is clear and easily accessible so that they can quickly skim through to find what is relevant to them.
In the following task produce a one page note covering:
- 2 key events that have impacted the international meat trade over the past year.
- Then using the AHDB meat stats pick 3 trends and present illustrate with graphs, charts, tables as appropriate:
