High School Integrated Science Periodic Table Research

Purpose: Students will describe the historical development of the modern periodic table and explain the organization of the elements on the periodic table.

Task: Students will make an informative booklet, pamphlet, or essay about the periodic table. Students MUST include detailed information for each of the following topics:

·  Contributions of Mendeleev and Moseley

·  Describe/explain the organization of elements into periods & groups

·  Describe chemical characteristics of elements in same periods & groups

·  Compare/contrast periodic properties of elements (metal/nonmetal/metalloid behavior, electrical/heat conductivity, electronegativity and electron affinity, ionization energy.) HINT: Define each of these and tell how each of these relate to the position within the periodic table.

This project will be counted as a grade (Total 50 points). The project must be turned in by Thursday, Dec. 6. Please remember the BCMS homework policy: Any late projects will receive a 10% deduction per day.
