CLASS TITLE:DEPUTY CHIEF OF FIELD OPERATIONS - DACS
ALLOCATION FACTOR(S)
This is managerial work directing and implementing state forestry operations and services within an administrative region. The employee(s) in the position(s) allocated to this class exercise(s) independent judgment in formulating, or assisting in the formulation of policies and procedures which have significant impact in personnel administration and/or preparation and administration of budgets related to wildfire operations.
EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED:

- Assists in the development and formulation of policies and procedures.
- Directs and supervises Forestry District and Forestry Center Managers within an administrative region.
- Reviews long and short-range operational plans for forestry programs within an administrative region.
- Reviews and assists in the development of budget requests for division and legislative budgets.
- Directs and manages activities for state forestry and wildfire programs within an administrative area, coordinating their activities and advising them on policy and administrative matters.
- Dispatched to large or complex fires to assist in the management of the wildfire suppression effort.
- Monitors monthly expenditures, analyzes trends, and shifts allocated funds as appropriate within an administrative region.
- Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forestry and four years of professional, administrative or supervisory forestry experience; or
- A master's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in forestry and three years experience as described above.
- Experience as described above can substitute on a year-for-year basic for the required college education.
- In accordance with Florida Statute 633, any person employed in this class must:
- (1) Be a high school graduate or the equivalent, as the term may be determined by the Division of State Fire Marshal of the Department of Insurance.
- (2) Not have been convicted of a felony or of a misdemeanor involving moral turpitude, as the term is defined by law and must comply with Florida Statute 112.011(2)(b).
- (3) Have his/her fingerprints on file with the Division of State Fire Marshal or an agency designated by the Division.
- (4) Have a good moral character as determined by investigation under procedure established by the Division.
- (5) Be in good physical condition as determined by a medical examination as prescribed by the division. Such examination may include but need not be limited to provisions of the National Fire Protection Association Pamphlet 1582.
- (6) Be a nonuser of tobacco or tobacco products for at least 1 year immediately preceding application, as evidenced by the sworn affidavit of the applicant.
