AHOUSE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE K. LEE GRAHAM, MISS TEEN USA 2014, AND TO COMMEND HER FOR THE DISCIPLINE, ASPIRATIONS, AND TALENT THAT HAVE ENABLED HER TO REPRESENT THE PALMETTO STATE AND NOW THIS NATION WITH DIGNITY AND POISE.

Whereas, on Saturday, August 2, 2014, Miss South CarolinaTeen USA, K. Lee Graham, became Miss Teen USA 2014. K. Lee won a twoyear scholarship (including housing) from the New York Film Academy, extensive travel opportunities representing contest sponsors and charitable partners, and many other exciting awards as the new Miss Teen USA; and

Whereas, this historic crowning moment, which took place at the beautiful Atlantis, a Paradise Island resort in the Bahamas, marked K. Lee’s first steps on a journey that will take her over many miles as a role model of beauty, health, and leadership for young women of today; and

Whereas, K. Lee is both artistically and academically gifted. Theatre is her passion, and throughout middle and high school she has participated in local productions and studied drama at the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities intensive summer programs. A young lady committed to her studies, K. Lee has taken on challenging courses that have made her number 1 in her class ranking at Chapin High School; and

Whereas, in addition, the Chapin High School senior’s passion for working with children has led her to volunteer on a weekly basis with her church’s children’s ministry. She also has volunteered with many other organizations, such as the USO, American Heart Association, Christ Central Ministries, LifeChangers, and Arthritis Foundation throughout the past year; and

Whereas, serving as Miss South Carolina Teen USA has enabled K. Lee to promote her Live Beautifully campaign, encouraging girls across South Carolina to find true beauty by embracing themselves, others, and their communities. To accomplish her goals, she has spoken to schools, grownher own Live Beautifully blog, and planned the first Live Beautifully Day; and

Whereas, competing in pageants runs in her family as K. Lee’s mother, Jennifer Neuen Graham, held the Miss South Carolina Teen USA title in 1985. Seventeenyearold K. Lee, the second oldest of five children, is considering applying to the University ofSouth Carolina Honors College and Yale University Theater Studies Program after her reign as Miss Teen USA 2014 is complete; and

Whereas, during her reign as Miss Teen USA 2014, K. Lee Grahamis providing a gracious and graceful role model that represents the combined qualities of intellect, talent, loveliness, and charm admired by all who know her. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the South Carolina House of Representatives, by this resolution, congratulate K. Lee Graham, Miss Teen USA 2014, and commend her for the discipline, aspirations, and talent that have enabled her to represent the Palmetto State and now this nation with dignity and poise.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to K. Lee Graham.
