2015 Annual Greek Awards Banquet

Dear Chapter Presidents,

As you know, Order of Omega is the Greek Honor Society on campus that strives to recognize the outstanding academic achievement, leadership and community involvement of members of the Greek community. We would also like to recognize those individuals in your individual chapters that have enhanced our community and those who have helped to guide us to reaching our goals.

The 2015 Greek Awards Banquet will be Monday, March 9, 2014 at 6:00 P.M. in the Dubois Ballroom.

To add members to the banquet guest list you can talk with an Order of Omega member from your chapter or another chapter or go to the Mountain View front desk. We have limited space so please ensure that your prominent members get their reservation as soon as possible. Tickets are $8.00 for dinner, dessert, and beverages.

Enclosed you will find the nomination forms for the awards. Nominations can be written by any member of a chapter; however, they must be endorsed and signed off by the chapter president.

Please ensure that no more than 3 nominations (1 minimum) are submitted per chapter for:

-  Faculty member of the Year

-  Fraternity/ Sorority New Member of the Year

-  Living your Ritual Award

-  Greek Man/Woman of the Year

Please ensure that only 1 nomination is submitted per chapter for:

-Fraternity/ Sorority Advisor of the Year

-Educational and Social Programming of the Year

-Scholarship Programming and Achievement Award

-RA of the Year

-Fraternity/ Sorority President of the Year

-Fraternity/Sorority of the Year

-Most Sustainable Chapter of the Year (NEW AWARD!)

-Best Sustainability Education Program of the Year (NEW AWARD!)

Award nominations do not have to be members of your own chapter. Nominations should be emailed to no later than Friday, February 20, 2015 at 5 P.M. LATE SUBMISSIONS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED!

All nominations should be no more than 500 words typed. Please discuss the main points about the nominee and why they deserve the award. Some awards may require additional items. Please read each awards specifications and requirements.

FRATERNITY CHAPTER ADVISOR OF THE YEAR

Criteria:

The chapter president or another officer who worked closely with the advisor should describe the following as they pertain to the nominee.

ü  Name and affiliation of the nominee

ü  Activities within the chapter and Greek system

ü  Activities on campus and in the community

ü  Number of years involved in the Greek system

ü  Specific examples explaining how the nominee has supported and encourages your chapter

SORORITY CHAPTER ADVISOR OF THE YEAR

Criteria:

The chapter president or another officer who worked closely with the advisor should describe the following as they pertain to the nominee.

ü  Name and affiliation of the nominee

ü  Activities within the chapter and Greek system

ü  Activities on campus and in the community

ü  Number of years involved in the Greek system

ü  Specific examples explaining how the nominee has supported and encourages your chapter

FACULTY MEMBER OF THE YEAR

Criteria:

The chapter president or another officer who worked closely with the advisor should describe the following as they pertain to the nominee.

ü  Specific examples explaining how the nominees has supported and encouraged you

** Order of Omega will contact all nominated Faculty/Staff members. All nominated members will be informed of which chapter has nominated them and will be invited to attend the banquet.

EDUCATIONAL AND SOCIAL

PROGRAMMING OF THE YEAR

Criteria:

Only include programming for Spring and Fall of 2014. The chapter president or another officer who worked closely with the advisor should describe the following as they pertain to the nominee.

ü  Steps taken to ensure a safe social environment, please include alcohol policies

ü  Chapter’s most creative social function where alcohol was not present

ü  Any educational programs that your chapter has planned or been involved in

ü  Please include any other information that you feel will help the committees decision.

** Only one nominee per chapter for any one award.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAMMING AND

ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Criteria:

Only include Spring and Fall of 2014. The chapter president or another officer who worked closely with the advisor should describe the following as they pertain to the nominee.

ü  Chapter GPA for both Spring 2014 and Fall 2014

ü  Overall ranking

ü  Chapter’s scholarship program including but not limited to:

o  GPA goals and requirements

o  Study Programs

o  Incentives and awards

o  Recent changes or new ideas

ü  Please include any other information that you feel will help the committees decision.

RA OF THE YEAR AWARD

Criteria:

Each chapter may nominate an RA on the Mountain View staff. Briefly describe the following as they pertain to the nominee:

ü  Describe the programming and interactions in which this RA has supported and encouraged your chapter

ü  Specific examples of how this RA has upheld the duties of their position

ü  Short paragraph describing why this person should receive this award

ü  What makes the nominee worthy of this honor?

ü  Contributions through his office that makes him exceptional and an asset to the chapter and its image

ü  Honors and awards

ü  Outstanding scholastic achievements

SORORITY CHAPTER PRESIDENT OF THE YEAR

The advisor or fellow member, preferably an executive board member during the 2014 calendar year, nominating the individual should describe the following as they pertain to the nominee.

MOST SUSTAINABLE CHAPTER OF THE YEAR

Criteria:

Only include actions taken in the Fall of 2014. In a short list, the person nominating the chapter should describe any improvements or accomplishments for each of the following categories. Please describe both chapter and individual member efforts. For competitive consideration, the chapter should be able to describe at least one change or action taken in each of the following categories. You may include any supplemental material that supports statements in this award application (for example, a list of chapter members that signed a pledge to recycle more). Please use the attached reference sheet for suggestion and ideas that you could implement with your chapter.

BEST SUSTAINABILITY EDUCATION PROGRAM AWARD

Criteria:

Only include programs from Fall 2014. The person nominating the chapter should briefly describe the program. Information to consider including:

ü  The topic and why it was selected

ü  The information shared with members

ü  The goals for program

ü  Any incentives or awards given to encourage action

ü  Why it was successful

ü  Any other information that you feel will help the committee’s decision

** Only one nominee per chapter for any one award.

PHILANTHROPIC WORK

Two other awards will be presented for philanthropic work.

One will be presented to the chapter with the most community service hours submitted and the other will be presented to the chapter with the most money raised. This award will be given to chapters who provided documentation of their philanthropy monies and community service hours raised in the Fraternity & Sorority Chapter of the Year Awards.

*These awards will be based on information that you email along with other award applications to by February 20, at 5pm. Please only include Spring and Fall of 2014!
