The Texas Gas Association offers scholarships each year to deserving children of TGA member companies.

The scholarship is used to aid with the first-year educational expenses.

The academic scholarship is open only to Texas students entering their first year of college and who are entering a four-year institution or a two-year institution which will ultimately lead to an undergraduate degree.

The applicant must be the child of an employee of a TGA Member Company in good standing.

TGA ACADEMIC SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Student (Applicant) must graduate from a Texas High School.
  1. TGASF will awardeight$2,000academic scholarships in 2016 to beginning freshmen who carry a full-time class load for both semesters of their freshman year.
  1. TGASF will award scholarships to the applicants deemed to be the most worthy by the Scholarship Selection Committee. The selections made by the Scholarship Selection Committee will be final.
  1. Student must submit the following data for consideration:
  1. A typed, complete application. Incomplete or hand written applications will not be considered.

So that the Scholarship Selection Committee may develop a better understanding of how well applicants manage their time, applicants must provide a brief accounting of their employment history during the high school years (if applicable, if not use the N/A to complete the section). In the Employment History section, applicants should include no more than the three most recent employments.

Also provide a focused listing of your extracurricular activities and time frame,along with a list of and the amount of community service rendered. In the Extracurricular Activities section, applicants should focus on artistic (visual, performing, musical, etc.) and/or athletic endeavors during the high school years.

A typedessay of not exceeding one page in 12 point font, single line spacing that addresses the following points: (The essay may nothave your name, yourparents’ names or parents’Company of employment. Violation of this will disqualify your application.(Only provide this information on the top page)
  • Give a concise explanation of the type and amount of non-paid involvement in community service, the length of involvement, the reasons for participation and the personal rewards received from these activities. The closing section of this discussion must include the overall

total number of volunteer hours earned. If, because of extenuating circumstances you had to work while in high school, please advise why you had to work, for whom you worked, the hours you worked and the benefits you acquired through the working process.

  • Give a concise discussion of what goals this scholarship award will help you to attain.
  • Why you believe you should receivethis scholarship.
  1. One (1) written/typed recommendation letter on letterhead and signed from a teacher, coach, principal or pastor explaining why they believe you should receive the scholarship. (This recommendation letter may notincludeyour name, your parents’ names or parents’ company’s name.)Violation of this will cause the letter of recommendation to be removed from your application. For example use, student, applicant, he/she, young adult in place of applicants name.This letter should be put in an envelope with the applicants name on the envelope and returned to the TGA along with your application.
  1. Recipients must be 22 years of age or less on the starting date of their firstfall semesterof their first year of under graduate studies for which they receive the award.
  2. The applicant must enroll in college for the Fall Semester of the 2016 academic year. (Should the applicant not enter the Fall, 2016 academic year, they must reapplyfor the 2017 scholarship)
  1. Applications, essays and the recommendations must be postmarked no later than Sunday, January31, 2016.
