To become more familiar with transcendental writing, you will create a book of quotations from the writings of Emerson and Thoreau. For each quotation, you should include a five sentence (minimum) explanation of what the quote means and tell about a time you experienced a situation similar to that described in the quote. You will also be making connections to the modern world by choosing song lyrics that reflect similar themes. For each song lyric, you will also include a one-paragraph explanation of how it reflects transcendental ideas. Then, you need to include an artistic work that reflects the ideas of transcendentalism. This includes, but is not limited to a collage, drawing, or comic strip frames.
Your booklet will contain:
5 quotes
2 song lyrics
1 artistic work
You may organize your booklet by theme (materialism, self-reliance, individualism, nature, simplicity, nonconformity, government, etc.) or just by quotes that are meaningful to you.
*Make a cover and decorate it appropriately.
*There should by one page per quotation/lyric.
*Be sure to give credit to the songwriter(s) and/or performer(s).
