Objectives: / SWBT use the second conditional in talking about what they would do in a variety of unreal situations, such as should they win a million dollars.
Materials: / Internet-capable computer lab with 20 stations, worksheet #1, white board, markers
Time / ESA / Procedure
5 min / E / Starting in the computer lab on the teacher’s web log at students are guided first to listen to this series of song snippets. ( and reflect on the question: “What do these lyrics have in common?” The blog then directs students to the presentation of the grammar point.
10 min / SF / Students independently watch the video of Jennifer teaching unreal conditionals at (
20 min / SP / Students are then directed to print off the worksheet that follows this page by clicking the link on the blog. They are directed to click the next link that takes them back to YouTube and the song snippets so that they might try to fill in the missing words (all the verbs in the subjunctive and all the modals in the independent clauses).
10 min / A / Back in the classroom after break, T will lead students in a game in which Ss must share what each would do if she/he had a million dollars. After that has gone around once, T can change the pattern so that the second student in the chain must change the first student’s main clause to an ‘if’ clause and add a new result clause.
