Street Child – Volunteering opportunity
Street Child is a UK charity working to protect vulnerable children and improve access to education insome of the poorest communities in the world. We work in Sierra Leone and Liberia, with a newproject in Nepal where the recent earthquake destroyed thousands of schools. Our work combinescounselling, family mediation, business support, school building, and teacher training. We were a keyplayer in the Ebola crisis and led the global response for children orphaned by Ebola in Sierra Leoneand Liberia. We deliver everything through local partners and since 2008, together we havebuilt/renovated 156 schools and are now helping to educate over 40,000 young people.
Our work is expanding and we need dynamic people to help us. It’s an exciting yet challenging time:Ebola is out of the world’s headlines, but its legacy still threatens to destroy lives. We urgently needto raise funds to address this, along with supporting our exciting new project in Nepal.
At Street Child, we are very proud of our volunteer-based approach. Street Child is a small anddynamic team and we are looking for someone to commit to a 3 month internship for 3-5 days aweek in our London Office. The position is unpaid, but travel expenses will be reimbursed and weare willing to consider flexible working arrangements (e.g. home and part-time working). Therole will provide valuable experience for someone looking to move into a career incharities, whether in fundraising, data management or development.
Key tasks
Proactively developing links with community groups and schools across the UK
Assisting with the design and marketing of exciting new fundraising resources
Researching potential new groups and organisations to approach
Helping to promote, recruit for and run the Young Leaders Programme with school students
Monitoring donations and thanking donors
Recording and tracking cold approaches and communications
Keeping data systems up to date and ensuring that data stored is compliant with legislation
Helping to develop supporter care processes tailored to the community fundraising department
Working with other members of the fundraising team and key supporters to develop a volunteer speaker network
Managing the administration of the speaker network
Organising and recruiting for cash collections
Person specification
Excellent academic credentials
Self-motivated and pro-active, with the ability to work as part of a team
Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and a highly professional manner
Strong administrative and numerical skills, and a proven knowledge of IT systems, particularlyMS Excel
An interest in international affairs and/or international development
Strong connections with groups in your own community/area would be an advantage
