PURPOSE OF THE JOB : / To assist in the installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of all point heaters and associated equipment and service supply.
SALARYRANGE / Metro Grade 3A
The following list is typical of the duties that the post holder will be required to perform. It is not necessarily exhaustive and other duties of a similar type or level may be required from time to time.
The post holder will be required to use his or her own initiative and work unsupervised for considerable periods of time.
There will be a requirement to undertake standby/callout duties for winter weather between mid October- mid April.
There will be a requirement to work unsociable hours. The working week shall consist of 5 shifts (day or night) out of 7 that may be spread over 5 days of the week, including Saturday and Sunday.
There will be a requirement to undertake standby/callout duties.
  • Maximum of 2 weeks night shift within a 4 week period
  • 06 weekends per year for heavy engineering works
Safety critical post.
PRINCIPAL AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY
1. / Installation, inspection, maintenance and repair of electric point heating and associated systems.
2. / Management of Contractors; Lookout and Worksite Controller (WSC) /Trainmaster
3. / To assist in the implementation of all Preventative and reactive maintenance/Renewal, Inspection Programmes

MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES

1. / To ensure all works are in compliance with current / future health and safety legislation, relevant standards, electricity at work regulations and associated procedures.
2. / To maintain all relevant records on computerised maintenance management system.
3. / To ensure all administration is completed correctly, recorded and submitted within the relevant time scales.
4. / Provide technical backup that is within their roles and responsibilities.
5. / There may be a requirement to temporarily deputise to the next level of management structure where applicable.
6. / When required to undertake all permanent way track person duties.
7. / There will be a requirement to undertake rostered standby / on call duty.
8. / To assist in the procurement / maintenance of stock levels to include adequate lead times.

ESSENTIAL QUALITIES / SKILLS

1.

To be qualified to a minimum of BTEC National Certificate in electrical Engineering or equivalent

Previous railway experience or equivalent vocational skills

Capable of taking instructions.

To be able to work alone or as part of a team.

To be computer literate

To hold a current UK driving licence

DESIRABLE QUALITIES / SKILLS

Experience / knowledge in a computer based maintenance management system.

To have served a recognised apprenticeship in electrical engineering or equivalent

To be certified as a WSC/LOM / Trainmaster.
