Salary:Grade 9 - £29,055 to £30,756 per annum

Job Type: Permanent, 37 hours per week (including some evening and weekend work by arrangement)

We are looking for an Exercise Physiologist with a passion for helping people improve and maintain their fitness. The successful candidate will report to the Group Manager Staff Risk and will be responsible for maintaining a fitness testing regime enabling staff to successfully fulfil the contractual obligations of their role providing support and advice to staff in relation to maintaining fitness levels as appropriate.

The role requires the production and implementation of both preventative and case specific training programmes designed to minimise both ill health absence and injury and, in association with Occupational Health & Safety staff and relevant medical professionals, you will provide advice on exercise to staff in recovery and rehabilitation.

Working with managers and staff you will seek to raise awareness and promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle and exercise and will be required to develop, implement and maintain Service policies and procedures relating to health and fitness, producing information and reports as required.

Essential Requirements

In the addition to the above you must:

  • Have a degree in Sports Science or Physiology; or an equivalent sports science related vocational qualification or experience;
  • Demonstrate experience of effective exercise programme design and implementation
  • Full and current membership of British Association of Sport and Exercise Sciences(BASES);
  • Hold a full current driving licence;
  • Ability to apply effective communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a variety of audiences;
  • Align to the Services corporate values (PROTECT)
  • Willing to undergo Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) clearance

  • Engage with managers and staff to maximise the effects of training; educating and advising on recovery techniques, diet and hydration strategies etc.;
  • Provide expert advice on exercise for staff in recovery and rehabilitation following injury /illness working in collaboration with occupational health and safety staff, Brigade Medical Advisor and the individuals medical advisors (e.g. GP/physiotherapist);
