SUBJECT: Nomination for Award of the Order of the Dragon for SFC John O. Does.

I am pleased to nominate as a candidate SFC Doe for award of the Order of the Dragon. SFC Doe personifies the competence and high standards of a Dragon Soldier. SFC Doe has served the Chemical Corps with distinction for over 13 years.

SFC Doe is currently assigned to Headquarters Company, Eighth United States Army, as a Chemical Operations Sergeant and serves as the NBC Logistical point of contact for the South Korea He is presently facilitating fielding of new equipment throughout the peninsula. His performance during Ulchi Focus Lens contributed to the overall excellent results of his section.

In December 2002, He was selected to instruct at the Fort Bragg NBC School. He performed superbly as the NCOIC and Senior Instructor in which he was responsible for training over 800 soldiers. His mentoring, dynamic teaching skills, and dedication to soldiers resulted in a 99% graduation rate during his assignment. He was always singled out on end of course critiques as being an outstanding instructor. SFC Doe devised, developed and implemented a NBC Room Operators Course which resulted in a 48% increase in Ft. Bragg ORA inspections. He was handpicked to serve as a Ft. Bragg IG NBC inspector.

In 1999, he was reassigned to Ft. Bragg, NC, where he served in 101st Chemical Company (smoke/decon), XVIII Airborne Corps. Then SSG Doe, was selected over twelve other SSG’s in the company to assume Platoon Sergeant duties. He expertly led his Platoon through intense training cycle culminating in superb execution of both Platoon and Company exevals. He groomed seven soldiers to win NCO and soldier competitions at Battalion and Brigade level.

He deployed his Platoon to OEF with only nine days notice. He supervised the wartime mission, morale, and welfare of a 26 soldier dual purpose smoke/decon platoon deployed to Qatar in direct support of the Central Command Headquarters. He ensured his soldiers were prepared for every chemical scenario feasible. His Platoon and soldiers were recognized by the Combined Joint

Chief of Staff and Sergeant Major of the Army for their superb efforts in support of the war time mission.

SUBJECT: Nomination for Award of the Order of the Dragon for SFC James O. Doe.

In 1996, after completing BNCOC in route, he was reassigned to Headquarters Support Company, Southern European Task Force (HSC SETAF), Italy. While assigned to HSC SETAF as a company NBC NCO, he played a vital role during numerous exercise and real world deployments to Vigilant Lion 96, Operation Mountain Lion, Guardian Assistance (Rwanda), Island Thunder (Sardinia), Guardian Retrieval (Congo), Peaceful Eagle 97 (Bulgaria), CMTC 98 and Agile Lion 99. SFC Doe served as the single point of contact for HSC support operations during deployment, employment support and re-deployment procedures. Throughout his assignment with HSC SETAF, he repeatedly improved every aspect of his areas of responsibility. He was the primary instructor for all NBC CTT tasks, resulting in 100% first time goes. He received superior 100% ratings during two Operational Readiness Surveys (ORS) inspections. He was chosen to represent SETAF in a Department Of Defense IG audit of the SETAF NBC program which resulted in excellent results. His NBC Room served as the standard for the entire installation which he served.

SFC Doe enlisted into the United States Army on January 14, 1992, and attended one station unit training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama. After completing Basic Airborne Training, he was assigned to 21st Chemical Company (smoke/decon), 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, NC. In the four years he served in 21st Chemical Company as a smoke/decon NCO; formerly SGT Doe had numerous accomplishments. He deployed to the Joint Readiness Training Center twice in which his leadership abilities were a direct result in his squad’s success. He provided rigorous and challenging support for Task Force Outload in preparation for the invasion of Haiti. He won and trained several paratroopers to win Soldier of the Month competitions. He received 100% results on two Operational Readiness Surveys and a Officer Maintenance Assessment and completed twelve semester hours of college.

Among SFC Doe decorations are the Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal with four bronze oak leaf clusters, Army Achievement Medal with two bronze oak leaf cluster, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal with bronze star, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon with the numeral “3” device, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal and Parachutist’s Badge.
