Summer of 2007

Another great summer at Falcon in 2007! Every year we try to think of different words to use to describe a Falcon summer and every year we come up with the same ones: Fabulous, excellent, best one yet, my home away from home, outstanding, never want it to end, and similar phrases. We are so pleased to see the results of thoughtful planning, tremendous staff effort and care, a really solid group of nice campers and overall good weather combine to produce another wonderful summer. The only thing that could possibly be better than the summer of 2007 is, of course, the summer of 2008!

Early Registration Alert

Parents can expect to receive early registration information in mid-November. The summer of 2008 will be very special year for Falcon and your family will want to be a part of the celebration. Stay tuned for more news of special events for 2008.

CIT Notes

Falcon offers a truly superior training program for young people wanting to become counselors. Campers who are eligible to apply to become a counselor-in-training (CIT) will receive application information in mid-November. Please read the instructions carefully and contact us with any questions before applying. Being accepted as a CIT is an honor as applications always exceed the number of CIT’s selected.

We are in the process of redesigning our web site and want to include a section on both camper and parent thoughts. One of the best ways for new families who might be considering Falcon for their children is to hear from families who already know camp. For campers, send us your comments, testimonials, what you liked best, your favorite activity, favorite food, whatever you think about Falcon. For parents, did we do something that stands out? Did you see something in your child’s time at Falcon that you want to share with others? For staff, what brings you to Falcon each summer? What do you learn at camp? Send all your thoughts to .

We are excited about using new technology to make our web site more interesting, useful and fun to visit. We will announce the completion of our upgrades as we get further into winter.

From the Director

The warm weather this fall has allowed more outside work to get done at camp and the farm. The inside walls of Cardinal, Blue Jay and Eagle cabins have been painted, the new Horse Camp stalls have a coat of stain, and prep work has been completed to put new roofing on the Cardinal Unit. The stables has a new hay shed built this summer and a remodeled tack room.

We have removed the old hay shed and much of the corral fence. The plan is to scrape and level the corral, put underground plumbing to the water troughs, eliminate the inner corral fence and rebuild the outer corral fence to include space where the old hay shed was. At the farm, posts are in the ground ready for a new type of plastic fencing with no barbs. We will have an additional 15 acres of pasture available, at least 3 more overnight spots and some very nice new trails for hiking and riding.

Nici and Alison are already looking at some new programming ideas and would enjoy your suggestions. Emily is back to a schedule full of work and volunteering. I am finally at home in the office looking at stacks of things to do after spending so much time at camp in the great weather. It was just too nice to be inside!
