Magnet Program

The magnet program is designed for academically gifted students in grades 3 – 5 with superior performance in both language arts and mathematics. Nomination booklets, which will be available beginning January 29, 2015, may be obtained from the school office, the FCPS Office of Advanced Academics or online at After January 29, 2015, the Office of Advanced Academics will be accepting nominations of present second through fourth grade students for possible placement in the magnet program for the 2015 - 2016 school year.

Students may be nominated for the magnet program by school staff, parents or jointly. Parents and teachers are encouraged to review information, including some characteristics of gifted students, that is posted at Teacher nominations, parent nominations and a completed Parent/Guardian Rating Form are due in the school office by March 2, 2015, so that tests can be administered and information required to complete the nomination packet may be gathered by school staff.

A Magnet Program Overview for parents interested in nominating their child will be held on January 27, 2015, from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. in the Board Room of the Central Office (191 South East Street). Parking is available in the East All Saints Street parking deck or in the parking lot located next to the Central Office off of East All Saints Street. Accessible parking is located in the Commerce Street lot located behind the Central Office. Enter the Board Room at the front of the building. The overview will include components of the magnet program and the processes leading to placement. Please note that this meeting is designed for parents, not students. Instrumental Concert: Our students, school faculty and families enjoyed a fantastic Instrumental Concert by our band and orchestra students! Outstanding performances for our day and evening concerts were provided by our 4th and 5th grade students in band. Thank you Mr. Cheston and Mrs. Cave for your support in fostering our students’ love of music!

Grade 1 & 2 Winter Program

The first grade classes of Mrs. Macerowski and Mrs. Millison, and Mrs. Schell’s second grade class did a wonderful job of presenting Warm Hearts in a Cold Season. Under the direction of Mrs. Raynor they performed to a packed house. Congratulations on a job well done!

Carson Reading Room Celebration

On December 12, 2014, the students and staff of Wolfsville celebrated the one year anniversary of our Carson Reading Room. We had guest readers for each classroom and Mrs. GrossnickleYoung provided cookies for all. The Carson Reading Room has been a welcome addition to our school and students. Thanks to all our guest readers and our superior students.

Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration: For the past 25 years, Frederick County Public Schools has held this celebration to recognize one outstanding student chosen by the school staff who shows exemplary character. This year, the WFES representative will be Nicholas Mottola! The celebration will be on Thursday, January 15 at 7:00 in the Governor Thomas Johnson High School Auditorium.

Hearing and Vision Screenings will take place at Wolfsville Elementary, Friday March 6, 2015 for students in Pre-K, K (if not previously screened in Pre-K), 1st grades, and ALL STUDENTS NEW TO MARYLAND PUBLIC SCHOOLS. Maryland State Law mandates these screenings. If your child requires glasses please be sure they are brought to school with them on screening days. Students who do not pass the screening will be re-screened on Monday, April 13, 2015. Following the second screen, a letter will be sent home to the parent/guardian of those students who do not pass for further follow up. Parents who object to the screenings must notify the school in writing. No longer will any other written requests be able to be screened at this time.
