Where so designated on the drawings, surfaces shall be waterproofed with a high performance, single-layer torch on, reinforced, polymer-bitumen waterproofing membrane system.

1.12

General

All surfaces shall be prepared, primed and the membrane applied strictly in accordance with the manufacturers’ current Technical Data Sheet.

All work shall be carried out by a pre-qualified contractor, who is well trained in the application of the specific, documented, membrane system.

All materials used in conjunction with the new membrane system, shall be approved by the membrane manufacturer.

Surface Preparation

All surfaces to receive the new membrane, shall be smooth, clean, dry, and free from irregularities.

With sheet membranes all internal and external corners shall be double detailed in accordance with the manufacturers’ recommendations.

All substrate cracks and surface imperfections are to be filled, sealed and dry prior to membrane application.

Priming

All surfaces to receive the waterproofing membrane, shall be primed with Index Bitumen Primer at a rate of 8m2 per litre and allowed to dry prior to application of the new membrane.

The coverage rate may vary depending on the porosity of the surface being treated; priming should only be carried out on surfaces that will be covered with the membrane on the same day.

The membrane layer is to be 5 mm minimum thickness, elasto-plastomeric, polymer bitumen membrane based on distilled bitumen blended with APP polymer, reinforced with non-woven polyester fabric and stabilised longitudinally with glass fibres. When tested in accordance with UEAtc directive Jan 1984, it shall exhibit the following properties:

Tensile strength: / longitudinal: 1100 N/50 mm
transverse: 1000 N/50 mm / (ENI2311-1)
Ultimate elongation: / longitudinal:50%
transverse:50%
Service temperature: / -10oC to 100oC / (continuous ambient)
Application temperature: / 5oC to 45oC / (ambient)
