Siemens are recruiting a number of Design Apprenticeship positions within Siemens Rail Automation based in various sites across the UK.

Siemens Rail Automation is the market leader in train control, both here in the UK but also globally where it provides services to the world’s blue chip rail networks. Its extensive portfolio of “technology leading” products have provided solutions for many different types of railway systems across the world, from densely used metros to high speed networks.

What are my responsibilities?

·  At the end of your three year apprenticeship programme you will have a nationally recognized apprenticeship that is approved by Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) and will fast track you towards Engineering Technician professional registration. The programme is designed to give you a thorough understanding of modern railway signalling design by achieving a nationally recognised railway signalling design license through the Institute of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE).

·  As an Apprentice Signalling Design Engineer you will spend the first year of the three year programme building the knowledge and skills you need. This will be done through a blend of college study and work based learning. You will spend the first 6 months at Paisley & Johnstone College and then back on the job at our local office. The following two years you will spend more time in the design function under the management of the Design Manager to build on your design competences.

·  By contributing to our major projects, under mentorship, you will achieve the required competences. Responsible for the time and quality design performance of allocated project activities. You will also be involved in testing and validation of products and systems. Your learning on the programme will enable you to assist in the planning and implementation of signalling activities, and the production of associated documentation as well as being responsible for the design data, its accuracy and integrity.

What do I need to qualify for this job?

Essential:

·  4 GCSE (or equivalent) grades in Maths (B or above) , English and Science (C or above)

·  Good communications skills

·  Computer literate

·  An ability and willingness to learn

Desirable:

·  Some interest / knowledge or railway signalling

·  Able to communicate and work effectively within a dynamic team environment

·  Passion for engineering

What else do I need to know?

The Signalling Design Apprenticeship will ensure have future Signalling Design Engineers who can maintain technical standards in all aspects of signalling design work and will be in direct support of the delivery of a number of Siemens Rail Automation’s Train Control projects. This will include activities associated with train-borne and track-side equipment, signalling control and interlocking / line-side signalling. This will also be involved in project planning activities and the resolution of design issues and validation activities.

Throughout the programme you will attend and successfully complete all training courses on the training programme to help build your experience, and you will complete an ONC in Electrical and Electronic Engineering which working towards an IRSE Signalling Designer License.
