AWARDS FOR TOURNAMENTS

The office staff is responsible for purchasing the awards for the WGANC tournaments during the year.

The tournaments currently held are: 18-59ers, Sassy Sixties, Swingin’ Seniors, WGANC Stroke Play Championship, WGANC Classic, Champion of Champions, and WGANC Match Play Championship, Hers ‘n His, Team Challenge (two tournaments).

WGANC awards three perpetual trophies each year, they are:

  1. Match Play Championship of the Women’s Golf Association of Northern California (large silver Revere bowl with handles, on a square pedestal).
  1. Stroke Play Championship of the Women’s Golf Association of Northern California (medium silver Revere bowl on square pedestal).
  1. Champion of Champions

(medium silver Revere bowl on square pedestal).

It is the responsibility of the Director in Charge (DIC) of the above tournaments to contact the previous year’s winner to bring the trophy to the tournament.Thetournament champion is responsible for having the plaque engraved and sending the invoice to the Office for reimbursement.

DESCRIPTION OF AWARDS

A description of trophies and awards given by WGANC in the past is contained in the Trophy and Awards binder. The following is a summary of awards given; refer to the binder for more information with regard to these awards.

Due to the high price of gold, the board voted to have only one design each year for the medallions for the following tournaments:

Age tournaments

Stroke Play Championship

Champion of Champions

WGANC Match Play Championship

The following tournaments will use the same design each year as has been used in the past.

Classic

Team Challenge (two tournaments each year)

In 2011 because the price of gold was so high, WGANC began giving out silver medallions.

NOTE: WGANC awards ball markers for closest to the hole at all of the tournaments.

  1. It is customary to give a gift to the captain of the club hosting a tournamentor to a member of the club who was instrumental in assisting with the tournament. The award may change each year at the discretion of the Board. The office will purchase the awards and the Director in Charge will ensure they are available to be handed out at her tournament.
  1. It is also customary to present each club that hosts a tournament with a framed certificate from WGANC. The office staff willorder the frames, prepare the certificates and have them signed by the president, Tournament Director and Director in Charge of each tournament.

PROCEDURES

  1. The Tournament Director will discuss with the board the cost and description of all awards for the following year at the November board meeting.
  1. Immediately following the tournament entry period, the Executive Director will discuss with the Director in Charge and Tournament Directorthe number of awards needed for the tournament. As soon as possible, the Executive Director will contact the awards supplier to order the number of awards needed by flight. This should be no later than one day after the entry for the tournament closes.
  1. When the office staff receives the awards, they will review the shipment against the invoice. After confirmation has been made, they will be stored in the safe until the Tournament Pick-Up is done by the Director in Charge and the tournamentTD. TheDIC and tournamentTD should also inventory the awards.
  1. The invoice will be approved for payment once the inventory has been completed. The Executive Director will approve the payment. A copy of the invoice will be given to the DIC and she should file it in her three-year tournament binder.

AT THE TOURNAMENT

  1. DISPLAY OF PRIZES:

The tournament committee will make arrangements for a place to display the prizes when they visit the host club prior to the tournament.

Every effort should be made to attractively display the awards in the display case. The display caseis available from the office.

The awards should be on display the first morning of the tournament as the contestants check in. If there is a perpetual trophy for the tournament, it should be included in the display.

A responsible person must be in attendance with the trophies at all times they are on display. If the Directors at the tournament are unable to do this personally, arrangements can be made with the host captain to provide a club committee member for this purpose.

After the first day of play, the awards should be stored for safekeeping until the final day of play. The DICof the tournament has total responsibility for the awards.

  1. AWARDING OF PRIZES:

Prizes shall be awarded in the following order: 1st Gross, 1st Net, 2nd Gross, 2nd net, et. seq. The player shall not have a choice should she qualify for both a gross and net award.

The DIC shall call the name of the winner and the President or thetournamentTDshould hand the prize to the winner.

OTHER AWARDS, PRIZES and GIFTS

  1. Most Improved Junior Golfer – The award is silver jewelry and the date is engraved on the back. A perpetual trophy is also given to her for the year.
  1. Course Rater Award – The award is given to a retiring Course Rater with 20 years or more of service to WGANC and is presented at the annual meeting. The year is engraved on the back of the award.
  1. Rules Official Award – The award is given to a retiring Rules Official who was not previously a Director and with 10 years or more of service to WGANC. This award is presented at the annual meeting. The year is engraved on the back of the award.

  1. WGANC PENDANTS
  1. The WGANC Pendant is a pendant with the WGANC crest affixed to it with gold filigree around the edge.
  1. The pendants are given to club captains to be awarded to club members with the total lowest net scores in regular club competition over a period of three months. The months and methods of awarding pendants are to be determined by individual clubs. Association members only are to compete for the awards.
  1. The number to be ordered each year varies depending upon how many must be distributed and how many are on hand. In order to keep the cost down, it is advisable to order sufficient pins to last two or three years.
  1. The Tournament Director will include an explanation of the procedures for the WGANC Pendants in her report and her training session at the regional meeting.
  1. WGANC Pendantswill be replaced at no cost to the clubs if lost.

F.Distribution of WGANC Pendants

  1. The office staff will determine how many awards will be distributed to each club based on their GHIN membership.
  1. The number is based on one award for each member club having 30 or fewer WGANC members, and one award for each additional 30 members or major fraction thereof. (Example: If a club has 65 members, two medals or if the club has 75 members three medals should be given to that club.)
  1. The office will supply the awards to the area senior Directors who will then distribute them at their Area Meeting in September.
  1. OUTGOING DIRECTOR PINS

Directorswho have served at least 2 years (added this note 6/7/13), receive a medallion/pin from the association. It is the responsibility of the Executive Director to make arrangements with each outgoing Director as to the design and stones she wishes to have on her medallion/pin.

The association will cover the cost of the following for each outgoing director:

14K gold pendant or 14K gold pin

Synthetic stones (one for each year served)

One diamond for the President and up to four synthetic stones (one per year of service).

If the outgoing Director chooses a precious stone, she will pay the difference between that and the synthetic stone.

  1. DIRECTOR PINS FOR GREEN JACKET
  1. It is the responsibility of the Executive Director to maintain an inventory of the Directors’ pins and who has possession of them. The outgoing Director will be responsible for delivering her pin to the Director who is replacing her.
  1. The President and Advisor have a pin designating their position.
