JOB SHADOW PROGRAM (JSP) APPLICATION
A job shadow is a short-term (4-8 hours) career exploration experience where you can observe an employee and find out what a typical workday is like. Choose a career and then spend the day, ask questions and learn what academic, technical and personal skills are needed to succeed in a given career.

Students have a legal and ethical duty to safeguard the privacy of businesses and clients while participating in a job shadow. Any release of confidential information is grounds for legal action against students, parents, and schools. Use the following guidelines below to understand what can or cannot be done, said, or written about a job shadow experience:
- All customer or client information such as account information.
- All workplace information including financial status, hiring and firing information.
- All employee/staff information such as salary, medical data, account information, or personal.
Any information shared/transferred in the JSP is to be used on the strict understanding that neither the PHRA nor its Executive Committee, Board of Directors, or members shall be liable to any persons for any loss or damage of information any nature, whether arising out of negligence or otherwise, which may be occasioned as a result of the use of the JSP provided at during program.
Ethical & Legal Behavior
Ethical and legal behavior is expected from all students participating in a job shadow. Laws exist prohibiting each of the following:
- Defamation of Character – Damaging a person’s reputation by making public statements that are false or malicious (written or spoken).
- Invasion of Privacy – Intrusion into a person’s private affairs; public disclosure of private facts about a person; breach of confidentiality; using a person’s name without his or her permission.
I understand that I will be responsible for attending an orientation meeting with the JSP staff and will complete a job shadow packet, an evaluation, and a thank you note to my host. I have read all the information about confidentiality and ethical and legal behavior stated above. I understand that I am representing both the Pittsburgh Human Resources Association and my University; I will take responsibility for my actions during and after my job shadow experience.
