Job description

Job title: Editorial Manager (1 year contract January 2011 – January 2012)

Place of work: Featherstone St, London, EC1Y

Purpose of job:To lead the editorial direction of the charity’s communications – including editing RNID’s bi-monthly supporter magazine - so they that are on brand and meet the corporate needs of the organisation.

Key accountabilities/deliverables:

  1. Lead on the organisation’s tone of voice and editorial direction, managing the editorial schedule and signing off RNID’s range of materials. This involves allocating work to writer/editors and occasionally freelancers, briefing and liaising with internal and external contributors and working closely with the design and production team.
  1. Work with the Head of PCS, Brand Manager and Design Manager on rolling out the new brand identity and tone of voice, and the ongoing management of brand guidelines and application of new tone of voice.
  1. Edit RNID's bi-monthly members' magazine, working with colleagues across RNID to generate content and with the design team on its look and feel.
  1. Manage the magazine’s budget and advertising account (including advert approval each issue) to maximise potential for income generation.
  1. Work with the Head of PCS, Brand Manager and Design Manager on the new identity of the rebranded magazine, not only its redesign but also considering focus, content and reach.
  1. Promote the work and content of the magazine internally and externally (in liaison with PR).
  1. Edit RNID's centenary supplement, a printed record of its history.
  1. Line manage three writer/editors including providing regular 1-1s and an annual appraisal.

Other duties:

  • To complete any other duties and responsibilities when requested which are commensurate with the role.
  • To carry out the duties and responsibilities of the post at all times in compliance with all of RNID’s policies, but especially Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety.

A statement of the main terms and conditions of service will be supplied upon offer of appointment. The information given below is intended as a guideline for candidates.

POST: Editorial Manager (1 year contract January 11– January 12)

SALARY:£34,000 per annum

HOURS:35hours per week but from time to time it may be necessary to work additional hours to complete your duties.

HOLIDAYS:The annual leave year is from 1 April to 31 March. The entitlement for this post is 25 days plus 8 days statutory holidays per year.

RETIREMENT:The age for retirement is 65 for men and women.

SICKNESS:A comprehensive sick pay scheme is provided by RNID.

PENSION:RNID operates a contributory pension scheme to which employees contribute either 3% or 4% of annual salary, matched by an RNID contribution of either 6% or 8%. Members of the pension scheme also have life insurance equivalent to four times their annual salary.
