Thank You Terry!

Thank You Terry!

Thank you Terry!

After more than 20 years Terry Bachand has decided to step down from her role as Chairperson of the Activities Team. Over the years Terry has planned cruises, many bus trips including the always popular casino bus excursions, been part of the bocce committee, co-ordinate bowling, Hand & Foot league and so many other “hats”. And sure she has made at least a “ton” of coleslaw! We are happy she will continue to be part of our team and thank her for her many, many years of dedication and wish her much happiness going into the future. Thank you Terry!

And now, congratulations to Nan Foster, our new Chairperson. We know she will do an excellent job…..big shoes to fill Nan!!

Horseshoes

I welcome back, to horseshoes, those of us who have spent the summer up north and also those who spent the summer here in Florida. The horseshoe tournament will start onJanuary 23rd. The teams will be drawn onJanuary 18th. All men who played last year will be automatically signed up for this year. If you can't play or if you know somebody not coming back to Sapphire Lakes please call me and let me know so I can adjust the roster. Men who are looking for something to do in the mornings, please come out and try horseshoes. We have a great group of guys and we have lots of laughs. I ask all men intending to play to please come out on the open days before the draw onJanuary 18thso that we can try and make the teams as even as possible. Open play will start on January 2nd at 9 am Monday to Saturday inclusive. Tournament play will be Tuesday and Thursday and run for 6 weeks. Looking forward to seeing everyone out.

Aquabics

Aquabics are held Monday to Saturday at both Pool #1 and Pool #2. Pool #1 begins at 9:00 a.m. and Pool #2 at 9:15 a.m. Classes are 45 minutes and everyone is welcome.

Bocce League

First a thank you to Terry Bachand for her contributions to the Bocce League committee. We will miss having her on the team but wish her all the best! Thanks Terry!

The Bocce League will begin the season on Monday, January 22nd. All residents are welcomed and encouraged to join!

All players must be in residence at Sapphire Lakes by the week of February 5th to qualify as team participants (the third week of play). After that date, they will be considered a substitute.

The Team Captains’ meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 17th at Pool #3 at 2:30 p.m. At this meeting the two “out of the hat” team members will be drawn by the Captains. Captains are responsible for collecting the entry fees of $10 (cash only please!) per team member. Funds are used for court maintenance, the purchase of umbrellas, prizes and other miscellaneous items.

The new court surfaces have been installed and ready for play. They do have a different “feel” but the great advantage is they do not require the daily maintenance of leveling, rolling and watering to keep them in consistent condition. The court surface is a little slower than the sand so it would be a good idea to throw a few balls before season begins. A new “playing field” for all!

A “new player” workshop will take place on Monday, January 15th at 1:00 p.m. on Court 1. All new players are welcome!

Anyone interested in refereeing this season is asked to contact Tony at . A referee workshop will take place on Monday, January 15th at 2:00 p.m. at Court 1. The committee thanks all of our volunteers!

A copy of the schedule for each division will be provided to all team members. Anyone wishing a copy of the other three divisions may do so by contacting Ann Morrison at ith “bocce schedule request” in the subject matter.

The play-off day will be Wednesday, March 14th (rain date March 15th or 16th) and the Super Bocce Game will be Wednesday, March 21st (rain date March 22nd or 23rd).

Please note there will be no changes to rain dates required for play-offs.

The Annual Hot Dog Day will take place on Wednesday, March 28th(rain date 29th or 30th) followed by the Gender Game, for the enjoyment of all of Sapphire Lakes.

Please mark these dates on your calendars!

Parking during bocce league games should be in the parking spaces at the tennis courts/picnic area or the eight (8) across the street on the west side of Gabriel Circle. Please do not park in the Garnet Association residents’ parking area.

Looking forward to another great season!

Your bocce committee:

Keith Fogel, Chairperson, Chet Bussert, Jack Morrison, Bill Sparhawk , & Tony Voislow

With just two weeks remaining for our residents to get a free appointment for the installation of their bulk contracted Video and Internet equipment, I can report to you that the vast majority of our 590 units have been converted over to the new Fiber Optics and are extremely pleased with the X-1 Video platform and high speed Internet in their homes.
