.2Rough Carpentry:Section06100.

.3Interior Painting and Finishing Schedule:Section[0990 ].

.4Exterior Painting and Finishing Schedule:Section[0990 ].

1.2REFERENCE DOCUMENTS

.1Meet or exceed requirements of CAN/CSA-O122M89, Structural Glued-Laminated Timber.

1.3DESIGN CRITERIA

.1Contractor shall be responsible for design of connections not indicated on drawings but necessary for completion of the Work. Design connections in accordance with:

.1CSA O86.1-94, Engineering Design in Wood (Limit States Design)

.2CAN/CSAS16.194, Limit States Design of Steel Structures

1.4SHOP DRAWINGS

.1Submit shop and erection drawings in accordance with requirements of Division 1.

.2Indicate stress grade, service grade and appearance grades, shop applied finishes, camber, cuts, ledgers, holes and connection details.

.3Each erection and shop drawing shall bear the stamp and signature of a qualified Professional Engineer registered in the Province of Alberta.

1.5MANUFACTURER QUALIFICATIONS

.1Manufacturer shall be certified by CSA in accordance with CAN/CSA O177M1989, Qualification Code for Manufacturers of Structural Glued-Laminated Timber.

.2Steel fabricator performing welding of steel connections shall be certified in accordance with CSAW47.192, Certification of Companies for Fusion Welding of Steel Structures.

1.6DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

.1Wrap [quality] [and] [commercial] appearance grade members with an opaque, moisture resistant wrapping prior to leaving plant.

.2Use padded, non-marring slings for handling members.

.3Protect corners with wood blocking.

.4Store members supported off the ground and separated with strapping, to allow air to circulate around all faces of members.

.5Maintain protection of members until permanent weather protection is installed, then completely remove protective wrappings.

2.Products

2.1MATERIALS

.1Laminating Stock:[Spruce Lodgepole Pine-Jack Pine] [Douglas Fir-Larch].

.2Laminating Glue: to CSAO112.7M1977.

.3Steel For Connections:to CAN/CSA-G40.20/G40.21-M92, Grade [300W] [350G].

SPECNOTE:Grade designation includes yield strength expressed in MPa and steel type. Types commonly used are type W-Weldable Steel and typeG-General Construction Steel. Refer to CAN/CSA-G40.20/G40.21-M92 for other yield strengths and types.

.4Bolts For Steel Connections:to ASTMA325M-93 or ASTMA490M-93.

.5Shop Primer For Steel Connections:to CAN/CGSB1.40-M89.

.6Galvanizing For Steel Connections:hot dip galvanizing to CSAG164-M92.

SPECNOTE:Specify shop primer or galvanizing for steel connections. Specify galvanizing for exterior, humid or corrosive interior environments, and where extended period of exposure after erection is anticipated. If both types of finish are required, ensure drawings or schedules indicate locations.

.7Wood Sealer:manufacturer's standard clear sealer.

2.2FABRICATION

SPECNOTE:Coordinate grades with structural designer. Verify availability and relative cost prior to specifying 24fE and 24fEX stress grades. "X" grade basically requires same visual grade stock and modulus of elasticity in compression zones as for tension zones in bending members.

.1Fabricate to stress grade as follows:

.1Bending Members:[20fE[X]] [24fE[X]].

.2Compression Members:[12cE] [16cE].

SPECNOTE: Stress grade 12cE is only available in Lodgepole pine/Jack pine and/or Spruce; 16cE is only available in Douglas Fir. Coordinate with laminating stock specified.

.2Camber for Beams Spanning Over 5 metres:1.5 to 2 times dead load deflection.

.3Fabricate connection hardware to applicable requirements of Section 05501.

.4Tag and mark members and connections as identified on shop drawings. Affix grade labels. Locate marks and labels at locations concealed after installation.

2.3APPEARANCE GRADE

.1Structural glued-laminated timber shall be [quality] [commercial] [industrial] grade.

OR

SPECNOTE:Delete schedule if only one appearance grade is required. Edit schedule to suit project requirements.

.1Provide appearance grades as follows:

Location / Member / Appearance Grade
[] / [All] / [Quality] [Commercial]
[Industrial]
[] / [] / []

2.4FACTORY FINISHING

.1Apply two coats of sealer to end grain and one coat to remainder of members.

SPECNOTE:If members are to be stained, consult with manufacturer and edit above paragraph as required.

.2Prepare steel connection surfaces to applicable requirements of Section 05501.

.3[Prime paint] [Galvanize] connection steel after fabrication.

3.Execution

3.1INSTALLATION

.1Erect members in accordance with reviewed erection drawings.

.2Brace and anchor members until permanently secured by structure.

.3Fit members closely and accurately to other members and other assemblies.

.4Obtain Minister's approval prior to field cutting or altering of members. If approved, apply factory sealer to cut surfaces.
