Subject: Joint Counseling for IITs and NITs

Dear Madam,

First of all, I thank you for announcing in the Parliament and assuring our court of law that a joint counseling will be held for all Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), National Institutes of Technology, Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) and Government Funded Technical Institutions (GFTIs) for academic year 2015-16.

I write to seek your immediate intervention into the implementation of joint counseling process as there has not been any official announcement in this regard by the IITs despite your repeated assurance to the Delhi High Court and both the houses of the Parliament.

This delay in an official announcement is raising serious doubts on the implementation of joint counseling by Joint Admission Board (JAB) and Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) which conducting counseling process for IITs and NIT/IIIT/GFTIs respectively.

Since, separate counseling for IITs and NITs result in multiple blocking of seats, I request you to please take immediate action and ensure that JAB and CSAB along with all IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs come on board for a joint counseling this academic year.

This will also help to get the academic session on time not only in IITs but also NITs which generally keep lingering the counselling rounds owing to vacancy caused by switching of options by many candidates.

There seems to be a tendency on part of IITs to evade the joint counseling process citing their inability to have prepared and tested software for the same. It seems to be a deliberate delay on part of IITs just because their unwillingness and non-serious approach towards this cause.

As an engineering aspirant, I request you to take necessary action so that a joint counseling for IITs, NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs are held for admission to the academic year 2015-16. I also request you to ensure that an official announcement in that direction is made by the concerned parties so that we have clarity on admission process.

I have strong belief that you will stand by your “words in the Parliament” and ensure that the assurances given to the courts by MHRD and IITs on the joint admission counseling process comes to reality from the academic year 2015-16.

Q: Are the IIT-NIT-IIIT-GFTI Joint Counselling structure and other processes like software ready for the academic year 2015-16?

Q: When are you scheduled to make an official announcement on the Joint Counselling process for IIT/NIT for the academic year 2015-16?

Q: JAB has already announced its Counselling dates for 2015-16 IIT admissions in its official notification. Will this calendar be revised while implementing the joint counseling process for IITs and NITs?
