First Call for Papers

The 13th International Circumpolar Remote Sensing Symposium
September 8th-12th 2014

The deadline for registration is July 20, 2014.

(Registration form available on or before 30 March 2014)

Abstracts Due: 15 May, 2014

Welcome to Reykjavik, Iceland! The bi-annual Circumpolar Remote Sensing Symposium will be holding its 13th international conference in Reykjavik Iceland for the first time. This symposium is unique in that it deals specifically with remote sensing applications in Arctic and Antarctic environments. This event provides an international forum for the exchange of current applied research in remote sensing and associated GIS applications for land and resource management, environmental monitoring, mineral exploration and other areas of scientific investigation. This symposium is an excellent venue to promote and exchange ideas for remote sensing in an environment that is often difficult to access and hard to monitor because of its extreme environmental and climatic conditions. The Arctic in particular is becoming more important to the nations of the world.

There will be two types of contributions to the symposium available:

1 - Oral presentation

2 - Poster

Abstracts are required for both types of presentations. All abstracts, presentations and posters will be given in English

Presentation topics may include remote sensing of the Arctic, Subarctic and Antarctic Regions in the following subjects:

·  Environmental monitoring

·  Wildlife management and habitat protection

·  Arctic vegetation

·  Land and water management

·  Land cover and land use change

·  Data Integration and Data Modeling

·  Geographic Information System and Web based portals

·  Boreal processes that have direct influence on Arctic processes

·  Snow and ice, glaciers

·  Climatology

·  Oceanography

·  Geology, mineral, and oil and gas exploration

·  LiDAR/Radar Imaging

·  Hyperspectral remote sensing

·  Ground, Airborne and Satellite imaging (including Unmanned Aerial Systems)

·  Archaeology

Abstracts

Interested contributors should submit an abstract of not more than 500 words, using the format at the end of this document. Abstracts should be sent electronically, as a Microsoft Word, OpenOffice, or plain text document. Please indicate if the presentation will be a Poster or Oral Presentation. Authors will be notified of acceptance of their contributions no later than 15 June, 2014. If earlier confirmation is required to meet travel approval requirements, please contact Carl Markon () and provide, at a minimum, a draft of the abstract.

Abstracts should be sent to: Carl Markon () no later than 15 May, 2014

Posters

Recommended size of posters is 1 m tall by 2 m long. Posters should be on a single sheet of paper or multiple sheets to fit within this area. Text should be short with key points listed (recommended no more than 2000 words), with ample graphics to relay the most important aspects of the work. Poster authors should be available to answer any questions conference attendees may have.

Oral Presentations

Oral presentations should be in Microsoft PowerPoint format and given to the registration desk or session moderator. Presentations should be provided on a CD-ROM or USB external drive for loading onto the conference laptop. If the presentation is on a USB external drive, it is recommended that the author also have a back-up available. At a minimum, presentations should be delivered to the session moderator not later than the session break prior the presentation. Presentations will be given in English. At the present time, authors should plan for a maximum of 20 minutes including questions.
