Roger Barrios Scholarship
Mr. Roger Barrios was a devoted and beloved physics teacher for many years at Putnam City North High School. He was known for his sense of humor as well as his kindness and compassion, but it was his contagious passion for learning and science that sparked many careers in science.
The Roger Barrios Scholarship is awarded to a student whose curiosity and passion for science will lead them into an area of engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, or technology - the student who would have responded most to the passion always seen in Roger Barrios’ classroom. The recipient will be one of tomorrow’s leaders in his or her chosen area of science.
Scholarship Amount: One (1)$250.00 scholarship available
Eligibility:
- Applicant must currently be enrolled as a senior at Putnam City North High School
- Applicant must pursue a career in engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, or technology
- Applicant must be a U.S. citizen
- Applicant must exhibit an ongoing curiosity and passion for science
- Applicant must have a strong academic background and aptitude in science and math
- Applicant must be well-rounded (extracurricular activities/community service)
Submission:
Applications must be typewritten using this form. The following documents must be submitted with your completed application:
a)Current transcript with ACT/SAT scores
b)Letter of recommendation from your current science or math teacher. The letter of recommendation must address the applicant’s ongoing curiosity and passion for science, aptitude for math and science, and ability to successfully pursue a career in the area of engineering, chemistry, physics, biology, or technology.
Deadline:
Applications for this scholarship must be received in the Foundation office no later than 4:00 p.m. on the last business day of February, 2017.
