The Syracuse Law Semester in D.C. Program

Application and Instructions

In order to apply to theSyracuse Law Semester in D.C. Program (“D.C. Program”), you must deliver the following documents via email to the Program Director, Professor Terry L. Turnipseed:

  1. Your resume
  2. Your unofficial transcript in pdf form (available on MySlice)
  3. This D.C. Program Application packet(typed, not handwritten)

Selection and Placement Process:

After you have submitted your application packet, each prospective participant will be interviewed by Professor Turnipseed. Following the interview, 25 participants will be selected to participate in the program in each semester. Each student will rank her top 5 desired placements and Professor Turnipseed will work to place each student with a desired placement. The placement attorney in D.C. may wish to interview prospective participants before placement is official.

Program Information:

  • Minimum of one semester commitment, though you can go more than one semester
  • Must be in Good Academic Standing (minimum GPA 2.2)
  • 35 hours per week minimum time commitment at placement
  • Academic year (fall and spring semesters): 12 credits in placement; two credits for the Washington Lawyer Seminar
  • Summer: five credits in placement; one credit for The Washington Lawyer Seminar
  • Students are not permitted to take more than 30 total credits of externships, clinics, moot courts, trial teams, law reviews, etc.

Program, I will be required to sign a Letter of Agreement, which will certify my understanding of the rules and procedures related to the D.C. Program. I understand that I may not drop either the placement/externship portion or the seminar portion of the D.C. Program once accepted.
