REAL WORLD VOCABULARY 

Directions:

Your Real World Vocabulary Display Page requires that all twenty (20) words be displayed clearly and neatly on a blank page of typing or construction paper.

Words must be researched and discovered in newspapers, magazines, books,brochures., pamphlets, or menus. Cut usable vocabulary words out with thecomplete sentence; they must be used in the context we study. They may be a variation of the word, but check with your teacher prior to using the word. Securely glue the cut-out sentence to the blank page and clearly highlight the word. Next to the sentence, write the complete definition of the word from the Real World Dictionary used by Willis High School, which are availablefree online or in the library for $0.70. You may use a real dictionary, also.

**You must turn in this page with all of the words highlighted (on back) along with your project.

Acceptable Sources for Words are as Follows:

  • Newspapers
  • Magazines
  • Brochures; Pamphlets; Menus
  • Books – photocopy the word, cut it out, and paste on the page. You must include the title of the book and the author from where the word originated. Only 10 words may be used from a book.

Your words and sentences may not be re-used during the school year. Words must be in their original form and CANNOT come from the internet. Real World Vocabulary Display Pages will NOT be returned; therefore, please do not turn in something that you expect back.

UNACCEPTABLE Sources for Words are as Follows:

  • Signed from other teachers
  • Words called out in class
  • Words in a phone book
  • Words spoken in movies, songs, etc.
  • Off of the internet
  • Words not in their original form
  • Words already used

Heading: Clearly write your name, the date, and the assignment titleat the top of your paper.

Bonus: Bonus points may be earned by:

1. attractively designing your display page for the current season;

2. including extra vocabulary words pertaining to the current season or holidays within the season; and

3. turning the project in early.
