img09 / YAWE Foundation is Located in the beautiful town of Fort Portal, Western Uganda, surrounded by various tourism attractions like national parks and lush forests YAWE had humble beginnings. It was developed by a group of Widows and their children in 2000 with a revolutionary idea of organizing the youth and women under one forum, offering thema platform of co-operation for the promotion of human rights, HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, support of orphans and encourage activities of self reliance. YAWE works with existing groups, as well as assisting in the development of other self-help groups, within Kabarole District.

BACK GROUND OF YAWE FOUNDATION

YAWE foundation is a voluntary non- partisan, non-governmental organization (NGO) founded in 2000.Its revolutionary idea is to organize the youth and women under one forum, offering a platform of co-operation for the promotion of human rights, HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, support of orphans and encourage activities of self reliance. YAWE works with existing groups, as well as assisting in the development of other self-help groups, within the Kabarole District

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

  • To organize and mobilize the youth and women under one forum, offering a platform ofco-operation.
  • To promote ICT literacy and Information sharing
  • To raise community awareness on issues of primary health care and HIV/AIDS.
  • To promote poverty eradication strategies through development of skills, talent and resource mobilization.
  • To promote social economic welfare for the vulnerable in the community e.g. women, youth and those with disabilities.
  • To enhance proper community management of natural resources (environmental protection) water and sanitation programs.
  • To advocate for the Human Rights of marginalized groups, women and those with disabilities.
  • To facilitate links between groups and development partners for sharing of information, experiences and resources.
  • To take other appropriate measures in furtherance of the above objectives.

GOVERNANCE

YAWE has a patron, board of directors, executive committee, staff and volunteers. Delegates from the member groups constitute the general assembly and convene annually to elect the directors and executive committee. Currently the organization has over 300 members within 10 member groups. The staff is composed of four full-time position and several volunteers. The organization also comprises a group of people living with HIV who help in community awareness campaigns on HIV/AIDS. A team of volunteers work part-time with the organization, undertaking activities which are co-ordinate by the staff and executive director
