Applications are invited for the SASAC High-level Systems Analysis Capacity Strengthening Three Week Programme 2017, for 20 August – 8 September 2017.

The National Research Foundation (NRF) and the Department of Science and Technology (DST) have decidedto develop capacity for systems analysis in South Africa and the wider region by launching the new Southern African Systems Analysis Centre (SASAC).

One element of this initiative involves a three week capacity strengthening program to be held at the Universities of the Witwatersrand (Johannesburg) and Limpopo (Polokwane) from 20 August – 8 September 2017.The program aims at developing a thinking approach within a wide range of disciplines which can be applied to a system e.g., a health system, a socio-economic system, a governance system, a mathematical and social system, an ecosystem services system and an engineering system. Key to the systems approach is working across disciplines and sectors.

ELIGIBILITY

UCT researchers are eligible to apply to attend the programme if they are:

Early-career supervisors; and/or

Early-career academics; and/or

Postdoctoral fellows.

Note: If you are applying as a postdoctoral fellow, please attach a letter from your supervisor (who must be a UCT employee). The supervisor must agree to take full responsibility for managing the grant and undersigning all budget transactions.

ELIGIBILITY

Applicants meeting the following criteria will be prioritised:

  • In possession of a PhD;
  • A manuscript ready for publication and all the data collected;
  • Illustrate the value to be derived from participating in the programme and the potential of new initiatives;
  • Ability to work independently and to interact with other scientists;
  • Fluency in English and ability to communicate in a scientific environment;
  • Willingness to participate in a range of scientific approaches related to systems analysis;

LOGISTICAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR PARTICIPANTS

Participants will be expected to fully participate in the three-week programme. The NRF will cover travel costs for one return trip to Johannesburg, accommodation and meals for the duration of the programme.

APPLICATION AND SUBMISSION PROCESS

Applications must be submitted through an online application process, via

  • Complete the application and attach all necessary supporting documentation in PDF format;
  • Submit your application upon completion

UCT’s internal closing date is Monday 26June, 2017 at 12h00.

The NRF system will close on Friday 30June, 2017 at 23h59, and no applications can be submitted after this date.

Please be advised that the UCT Research Office may not review and provide feedback for any applications which are not submitted by UCT’s internal closing date i.e. Monday 26 June at 12h00.
