Name of award winner: Angela Davis Sept 2016

Age of award winner: 14

Reason for award: Angela first competed for Orion as an U13 athlete in 2014 by taking part in a couple of Open meetings at Woodford. 2015 saw Angela focussing much more on her athletics both in the winter and summer season and she was getting fitter and faster as the year went on. This year Angela has gone from strength to strength, has trained hard and perfected her race technique resulting in her knocking 3 seconds off her 200m time in the period from April to June 2016. Angela ran 25:03 giving her a ranking of 15th in the whole country for U15 athletes for 200m. Angela qualified for the English Schools this summer and whilst she didn’t have her best race, was honoured to have been selected and learned a lot from the experience of competing with top athletes. She also won a bronze medal in the Inter Counties.

Name of award winner: Rosie Shaw Nov 2016

Age of award winner: 13

Reason for award: Rosie first ran with Orion when she was at primary school and won the Borough primary schools cross country race as a 10 year old with a massive smile on her face.

As soon as Rosie turned 11 she was a key member of the U13 Orion team taking part in cross country as well as track events. Rosie also ran for the London Borough of Waltham Forest in the mini marathon trials and the London Youth Games.

Rosie is more of a mud and hills athlete than the track but can always be relied upon to do whatever is necessary for the good of the team, whether that’s running, hurdling or jumping.

She can often be seen helping at events, including handing out the numbers, acting as sweeper in events for younger athletes or helping serve food at the club’s annual presentation evening.

Rosie is a great member of the club, a very willing and personable young athlete and deserves this award wholeheartedly.
