Happy Spring or Happy Rain,

Just what season is it, Spring, Winter, or Summer? We are very thankful for all the rain but I know I’m personally ready to lie out on a rock and soak up some warm sunshine just like a lizard. We will soon be in our 6th year of business at Morning Star Quilts. It hardly seems possible that, that much time has already passed. Ninety percent of that time has been pure joy, fun and excitement. The other ten percent has definitely been the effect of the economy and the rise of cotton. It has always been my goal to keep our prices as low as we can and still pay the bills, but the world in general can definitely influence that decision.

You our cherished customers continue to capture our hearts, make us proud of your abilities and quilting growth. The laughter in this store is the best medicine possible for all of us. I hope that we continue to provide a fun place of refuge for you, and a nice break in your busy schedules.

We are making several changes in the store. They are a surprise for now. As soon as our project is finished we will let you know. Look forward to some fun goodies.

Our class schedule has some fun summer projects for you. Teachers include Marsha, Jen, Debi Soares, Liz Brown, Debbie D’Ewart, Donna Greenwald, Jim Sorrell, Don Linn, Christine Barnes, Linda Ballard and Cindy Needham. Please read on for our class descriptions. We do have a tendency to add classes as time goes on. Jen is good about keeping our page updated.

New fabrics are arriving almost everyday. New batiks, Christmas (already), some Halloween, new Riley Blake, Moda, Henry Glass, Lecien, Robert Kaufman, and new wool. Our shelves are full of new patterns and books.

I have been trying to do better with my blog posts, check in and see what’s up. Just go to our web page morningstarquilters.com and click on our blog.

Have a great Spring and Summer!

God Bless,

Marsha

DANCING WITH THE STARS (Beginner +)

As you look at the quilt you’ll see movement, circles, stars and chains. The beauty to this quilt is how easy it is when it doesn’t look that way. I’ve taken the traditional Tennessee Waltz pattern and did a little different spin on it and I think you’re going to like piecing it. Quick methods, tools and the instructor (me) will make this a great quilt for you to piece. This is a new pattern and is being offered in several sizes.

COLOR CAMP (Beginner)

Do you stress when it’s time to choose colors and fabrics for a new quilt? Do you wish you had a better “color sense”? You need to go on retreat to gain a new perspective. You need to come to Color Camp!

This no-sew workshop based on Christine's new book, The Quilter's Color Club, consists of cut-and-paste color studies, with lots of help from the teacher and group critique of every block. The first three mock-block exercises focus on value (light and dark), temperature (warm and cool), and intensity (bright and dull). These characteristics, more than color itself, determine the impact of a quilt. An overview of the color wheel and a final exercise expose students to this invaluable (and amazing) tool for quilters. It’s lots of creative fun, and you’ll leave “Color Camp” with fresh ideas for working with color.

At the midpoint of the day, Christine presents a mini trunk show of garments and quilts that show how she applies color basics to her work.

Date: Saturday, September 17

Time: 10 - 4 pm

Cost: $50.00

Taught by: Christine Barnes
