Call to Order

President Spencer Hill called the fall director’s meeting to order at 6:07 pm at the North Iowa Fairgrounds inMason City, IA.

Roll Call

Roll call was answered by 4 officers, 15directors, 3 directors at large,NTA director George Scalf, FTA Representative Gene Purdy, TIP director Jeff Kempf, DNR Representative Ron Andrews and Legislative Representative Lyndon Sutcliff.

New Directors

  • Mike O’Hearn expressed interest in beinga Director for District 1.
  • Motion by Gene Purdy to have Red O’Hearn as District 1 Director. Seconded by Mike Sells. Carried
  • Eric Rector expressed interest in being a Director for District 16.
  • Motion by Mike O’Hearn to have Eric Rector as District 16 Director.Seconded by Dean Hoffman. Carried
  • Dita Mallon presented to the board a letter of resignation, effective at the end of convention, due to family commitments she could no longer finish the term.
  • Motion by Cody Hutton to accept Dita Mallon’s resignation. Seconded by Mike Sells. Carried.
  • Nomination was made by Dita Mallon to have Linda Long finish the term as secretary. Seconded by Chris Grillot. Carried.
  • Jim Mallon presented to the board that he is resigning his position as director at large due to family commitments.
  • Motion by Craig Sweet to accept Jim Mallon’s resignation. Seconded by Dennis Johnson. Carried
  • Nomination was made by Jim Mallon to have Mike Long finish the term as director at large. Seconded by Mike Sells. Carried.

Approve Agenda

  • Motion made by Randy Mitchellto approve the Agenda. Seconded by Craig Sweet. Carried.

Minutes

  • Amendment made by Gene Purdy to state that under the FTA he was at the FTA convention so he could not attend the summer Directors meeting. Seconded by Randy Mitchell. Carried

Executive Council

  • The executive council was approached about a DJ for the NTA Convention. They hired Ron Andrews son to be a DJ for $250.
  • Motion by Jeff Kempf to accept the executive councils decision to hire a DJ for $250. Seconded by Mike Long. Carried.

Secretary’s Report

  • Dita Mallon reported that there are currently 1,372 members with 319 of them being lifetime.
  • Motion by Gene Purdy to approve the secretary’s report. Seconded by Dennis Johnson. Carried.

Treasurer’s Report

  • Chris Grillot reported on current finances.
  • Chris reported that she instructed the South Ottumwa Savings Bank not to renew the CD and mail the check to Chris Grillot, made out the Iowa Trappers Association.
  • Chris reported that the Lifetime Money Market is only receiving ½% interest.
  • Motion by Gene Purdy to have 2 CD’s.
  • Gene Purdy withdrew his motion.
  • Motion by Jeff Kempf to have the money from the South Ottumwa Savings Bank and a portion of the Lifetime Money Market funds put into 3 separate CD’s, 1 at 6 months and 2 at a year. Seconded by Dennis Johnson. Carried.
  • Chris requested a postage scale for $40 plus tax for 10# weight capacity.
  • Motion by Dean Hoffman to allow Chris purchase a postage scale. Seconded by TexAdams. Carried.
  • Chris Grillot reported that the Iowa Trappers Association now has a bond policy in place.
  • The new ITA president will have to fill out an application for the bond.
  • The bond company has a requirement for a check writing policy for dual signatures on the checks.
  • Chris presented a proposed a check writing policy.
  • Motion by Randy Mitchell to accept the proposed check writing policy. Seconded by Dwayne Kay. Carried
  • Motion by Craig Sweet to accept treasurers’ report seconded by Jeff Kempf. Carried.

Correspondence

  • George Scalf received a request for a donation from Miss Rodeo America.
  • Motion by Jeff Kempf to send $50 to Miss Rodeo America. Seconded by Gene Purdy. Carried.
  • Craig Sweet received a request for the membership list from Montgomery Fur for 10 cent per membership name.
  • Motion by Gene Purdy to sell Montgomery Fur our membership list on labels for 10 cents per name. Seconded by Dennis Johnson. Carried.
  • Spencer Hill was contacted by Waterloo Chamber of Commerce to host a convention there.
  • Cody Hutton gave a presentation on the FBU.

District Directors

  • Ed Clouse presented the magnets the board approved at the summer meeting.
  • The Board of Directors decided to give away the NTA kids pack to the kids at the NTA convention.

FTA Report

  • Gene Purdy presented the minutes on the governing board meeting.
  • FTA is currently operating the black
  • BMP’s continue to be actively addressed.
  • The FTA has 48 active affiliates and 21 active chapters.
  • Board voted to increase dues affective January 1, 2009.

NTA Report

  • George Scalf reported on the new Executive council and new board members.
  • The 2010 NTA convention will be MarshfieldWisconsin August 2-9.
  • George reported on the new Editor for the American Trapper and the new Convention Coordinator.

TIP Report

  • Jeff Kempf reported that he mailed in all the paperwork and has not received any information yet.

Legislative Report

  • Spencer Hill stated that he did not attend the DNR meeting pertaining to legislative proposals for 2009.

Fur Coat

  • Spencer Hill suggested to the board to start thinking about 2009 fur coat.

DNR Report

  • Ron Andrews reported the decline in population of muskrats and red fox is a concern.
  • The DNR added 4 additional counties to the west side of the state and the lower 2 tiers still remain open. The quota has been increased to 200.
  • Ron Andrews stated that the limit on otter has been increased to 500.
  • Ron Andrews reported on a small increase of black bear sightings in the Midwest including Iowa.
  • Ron Andrews discussed the live coyote market issue and the use of utilizing nuisance raccoon for training hounds.

2008 NTA Convention

  • Spencer Hill reported on the need for volunteers.
  • We will have a few items for the ITA auction after the General membership meeting on Saturday afternoon.
  • Randy Mitchell stated that the fair board has been exceptional in helping set up.

2009 Fall Convention – Northwest/Northeast

  • The Humboldt countyfairground does not have any weekends open in September.
  • Eric Rector stated he contacted the Wright County Fairgrounds and they have September open.
  • Eric Rector will purse the Wright County Fairgrounds for next year convention.
  • Motion by Cody Hutton to have executive council to decide between Humboldt county and Wright county. Seconded by Mike Sells. Carried

2010 Fall Convention – Southeast

Unfinished Business

  • Chris Grillot reported that the 2008 Forever Outdoors Show September
  • Motion by Jeff Kempf to attend the QQCA show if Ed Grillot and Tom Walters wish to do so. Seconded by Dennis Johnson. Carried
  • Dwayne Kay reported on the Pheasant Fest in Wisconsin February 6-8, 2009.
  • Nominations are still open for president and treasurer.

New Business

  • Spencer Hill stated that the NTA is having Half Pint the clown at the convention. George Scalf donated $60 to have her stay an extra hour.
  • Randy Mitchell, Randy Porche and Craig Sweet have been selected as minutes review committee.
