Annual Business and General Membership Meeting

Renaissance Esmeralda Resort & Spa, Indian Wells, CA-August 6, 2003

Call to Order: Chair Claire Schmelzer called the meeting to order at 6:13 P.M., with approximately 150 ICHRIE members present.

Secretary’s Report: Bob Bosselman referred members to the minutes from the 2002 Annual Business and General Membership Meeting, printed in the 2003 Program Book.

Motion: To approve the minutes from the 2002 Meeting. Goldblatt/Connolly.

Bob next referred members to the revised Bylaws, available on the ICHRIE website, and published in the 2003 Program Book.

Motion: To approve the revised ICHRIE Bylaws. Zema/Connolly. Unanimous.

Treasurer’s Report: Arun Upneja referred members to the report from Lane & Associates, ICHRIE’s auditor. Arun indicated key points from the report, emphasizing ICHRIE has returned to positive financial performance.

Motion: To approve the Treasurer’s Report. Carrier/Connolly. Unanimous.

Recognition of Special Guests and Supporters: Claire identified past ICHRIE Presidents and ICHRIE partners, as well as current Board members. Claire then introduced Tom Connolly, past ICHRIE President.

Installation of New Officers and Board Members: Tom introduced the 2003-2004 Board of Directors, and formally inducted them.

Recognition of Outgoing Officers and Board Members: Claire thanked all outgoing officers and Board members.

Chair of the Board’s Report: Claire reflected on her goals for ICHRIE. She referred members to the Annual Report provided on their chairs. Claire then introduced Rai Shacklock as ICHRIE’s new President. Rai thanked Claire and introduced Fred Mayo.

President’s Report: Fred Mayo revisited his goals of more members, endowed awards, more partners, and more fun meetings. He noted the success with some and the work still to go on others. He recognized the passing of long-time ICHRIE member Flora Gailliard, the spirit of Willie McCool, son of ICHRIE members Audrey and Barry McCool. He praised the spirit of ICHRIE through its independence, improvement, initiatives, insight, and international membership. Fred was recognized as ICHRIE’s first Immediate Past President, reflecting the just approved Bylaws revision.

President-Elects’s Report: Rai Shacklock discussed her vision for ICHRIE, using the strategic plan as the focus. She noted that the Board of Directors was accountable to the membership for its performance. She recognized the JHTE for its recent Golden Page Award; ESD for its growth in chapters and number of certificates awarded; the 2003 Conference team for their work in getting the Conference set; and Kathy McCarty for her leadership, and Becky Dixon for her tireless efforts on behalf of ICHRIE. Rai completed her remarks by noting that ICHRIE has grown past turbulent times. More involvement by members is needed, and we must add more members and supporters. Rai then reviewed some highlights of the Conference including the Career Academy, Culinary Workshops, Marketplace, and Survival Games.
