Graduation Rate Statistics: Transfer-Out & Transfer-In Students

The Ohio Articulation and Transfer Network (OATN) recently prepared reports on transfer behavior and graduation outcomes of first-time Ohio public two-year college students. Using a cohort of first-time students in 2009-10, these reports presented graduation rate statistics for transfer-out students from each two-year institution and the same for transfer-in students to each of Ohio’s 13 public four-year institutions. The reports presented graduation rates for transfer student sub-populations defined by Pell grant eligibility, age, gender, and ethnicity. The definitions of cohort, transfer, and degree receipt used in the investigation followed closely the same used in the 2016 Community College Research Center (CCRC) report titled Tracking Transfers – New Measures of Institutional and State Effectiveness in Helping Community College Students Attain Bachelor’s Degrees by Davis Jenkins and John Fink.

Because first-time students account for only a quarter of Ohio’s public two-year college students in a given year, OATN has produced an additional set of graduation rate statistics for the larger sample of all two-year college students in 2009-10. This document presents the graduation rate statistics for transfer-out and transfer-in students.

  • Table 1 presents graduation rates for transfer-out students by their institution of origin (two-year institutions); the cohort includes only first-time two-year college students in 2009-10.
  • Table 2 presents graduation rates for transfer-in students by their institution of destination (public four-year university main campuses); the cohort includes only first-timetwo-year college students in 2009-10.
  • Table 3 presents graduation rates for transfer-out students by their institution of origin (two-year institutions); the cohort includes all two-year college studentsin 2009-10.
  • Table 4 presents graduation rates for transfer-in students by their institution of destination (public four-year university main campuses); the cohort includes all two-year college students 2009-10.

The data used in the reports are obtained from the Higher Education Information (HEI) system of the Ohio Department of Higher Education, and the National Student Clearinghouse (NSC).
