Graduate Assistant- Position Description 2018

Position: Graduate Assistant

Supervisor: Lourdes Ramirez

Position Summary:

The Graduate Assistant will support the education of all students. They will work with the administration, office staff, classroom teachers, and specialists, as related to each student.

General Duties and Responsibilities:

The responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Coordinate with Fitchburg State University for all Pre-Practicum placements. Coordinate, distribute, and collect paperwork for FSU Placement Coordinator. Work with FSU to coordinate the placement of University students both by classroom and individually for the Education and Human Services Departments.
  • Assist with students’ literacy and math needs, including development of after school programs.
  • Participation in meetings as required by McKay Administration and teaching staff.
  • Work closely with the front office and assist them with office tasks when needed.
  • Assist Associate Dean/Principal with research and preparation of professional obligations and documents.
  • Contact parents for school events and special projects. Contact parents monthly concerning the All School Assembly.
  • Work with guidance and administration to coordinate, distribute, and organizeMCAS and PARCC testing.
  • Interview FSU student tutors for placement at McKay.
  • Coordinate with outside organizations and partners to support McKay Art Academy. These partnerships include FSU, PTO, and the FAM.
  • Attend school events as needed.
  • Act as the McKay coordinator for the Math Mentoring program in partnership with the FSU Education Department.
  • Draft and present final version of business letters.
  • General clerical, organization, and editing responsibilities to assist the Associate Dean/Principal.
  • Run reports, navigate, and become familiar with school data and information programs like X2 and School Spring.
  • Create final versions of school permission slips and other letters and communication to McKay families and school community.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Associate Dean/Principal

Qualifications:

  1. The qualified candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree and be enrolled in a graduate program at Fitchburg State University.
  2. Newly accepted graduate students must have an undergraduate GPA of 3.0 or better. Current graduate students must have a graduate GPA of 3.5 or better. Two letters of recommendation attesting to their work history are required.
  3. Good written and verbal communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; ability to interact well with the diverse segments of the Fitchburg community.
  4. The successful candidate will be a mature, responsible, independent thinker, who demonstrates flexibility and good problem solving skills.

Process: Since selection for this position is contingent upon acceptance to a graduate program, we would encourage seriously interested candidates to apply for graduate admission as early as possible.

The graduate student selected for this position must work 20 hours per week for 40 weeks in order to earn the full stipend. The student selected will be provided with a stipend not to exceed $8800.00, paid on a biweekly basis and tuition and fees waiver for 15 semester hours of graduate work.
