Cheri Skop shared that the SGC elections are March 23 – 29, 2016. The elections will be for 2 parents and 1 teacher to serve a two year term, July 1, 2016 – June 30, 2018. The Communication Committee will meet to discuss. Candidate Declarations are open on February 15, 2016 and close on March 1, 2016. All of the pertinent information should be updated on the SBCE SGC website. Amy Rice suggested having a SGC open meeting during that window of Candidate Declarations.
Bridgette Marques shared the 2022 Capital Improvement Program for SBCE for all to review. The work is scheduled to start the summer of 2017. It was suggested to move replace plumbing fixtures and site drainage improvements to the top of the list. Mary Justice also asked for carpet replacement in the Media Center to be added to the list. Clarification was needed as to “tack boards”.
Bridget Marques shared the SBCE ITBS Communication. She is pleased with the students’ overall performance. The information is used as a data point for instruction and TAG placement. Ms. Marques also shared the Georgia Milestone results with respect to SBCE, the state and learning community. Our NELC Program Specialist, Yasmine McKenzie met with the teachers last week to interpret the data.
Last year’s Georgia Milestones scores were held harmless, since it was the first year. This year fifty percent of the testing will be online, so the plan is for 4th, 5th and all special needs students to test online this spring. The county is looking at extending the time for re-testing and possibly open up a couple of schools during the summer.
The SBCE 2016-17 Seed Fund Application has advanced to the final round which is on February 8, 2016. Congratulations!!! Up to three individuals will be required to answer questions for the Foundation. The SGC brainstormed and discussed what the best response would be for each of the two questions. Bridgette Marques, Ashley Black and Allison Elder will be the designated spokespersons.
Mary Justice shared the status of the Media Center. She is waiting for an electrician to add an outlet on the back wall. She is also looking at purchasing several partitions to designate specific areas.
