Reports to :

  • Youth and Children's Minister

Key Focus of Role :

  • To support and expand our children and families work

Specific Areas of Responsibility :

To give input into the future Children and Familiesstrategy

  • Provide clear insight into the children and family situation within St Stephen’s.
  • Proactively identify areas for the development of family ministry within the parish and report back to the church leadership
  • Support ecumenical Children, Young People and family initiatives

To provide leadership to Children and Family Volunteers

  • Equip, train and supportvolunteers in the life and mission of the whole church.
  • Develop, nurture and provide pastoral support to group leaders.

To engage with mission to children, young people and families in our local community

  • Foster strong networks and relationships with staff at our local schools
  • Strengthen links with the St Stephen’s Nursery School and parent and toddlergroup.
  • Establish the best strategies for mission to families in conjunction with the Children and Young Persons Minister
  • Identify and oversee outreach events for children, youth and families
  • Work closely with the ecumenical teams from other churches

To be a key member of our church staff team

  • Play a key role in the church staff team, supporting the overall vision and values of St Stephen’s by participating in Staff meetings.

Training and Development

As a church, we are committed to the development and training of every team member. Funding will be provided for appropriate study and training and you will be encouraged to :

  • To constantly pursue personal spiritual growth and make space for personal prayer. This will include making time for retreat.
  • To undertake regular supervision and appraisal
  • Pursue such study and training as is appropriate, through agreement with the Vicar and PCC.
  • Be proactive in ensuring personalsupport networks, e.g. a mentor, a cell group, spiritual director
  • Engage with Diocesan Youth and Children’s Advisors for support and insight into various aspects of youth ministry. This includes keeping up-to-date with good practice in CYP ministry.

Person Specification :

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • A committed and mature Christian faith with a strong commitment to both ‘word’ and ‘Spirit’
  • Proven ‘hands on’ leadership skills and experience
  • A genuine care for both children and families
  • Good interpersonal, organisational and communication skills
  • Self-motivated and pro-active
  • A passion for evangelism and discipleship amongst young people
  • The energy and ability to inspire others
  • Experience in other children and young personroles
  • Team working
  • Pastoral and networking skills
  • Flexibility and adaptability

The following are desirable :

  • Candidates will hold formal youth and/or theological qualifications, or be coming towards the end of a course of study.
  • Understanding and experience of the Anglican context
  • Good administrative skills
  • First Aid Qualifications
  • A full, clean driving licence would be highly advantageous.

The following will be required :

  • Candidates will either be licensed, or be prepared to work towards licensing, by the Diocese.
  • Appointment will be subject to the outcome of an Enhanced Disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau.

Summary of main Terms & Conditions of Employment :

ContractComprehensive Terms and Conditions of the contract of employment will be issued, including the items below and other details such as procedures for sickness absence, termination, grievance and disciplinary.

Start DateJune 2017or as soon as giving appropriate notice allows. There will be six month probationary period.

Hours 10- 30 hours per week (negotiable with the successful candidate)

Salary £16,000 pro rata. Salary will be reviewed annually in April.

ExpensesOn the job expenses are paid including use of your own car.

HolidaysA holiday entitlement of 30 working days (pro rata), plus public holidays which fall on days normally worked.
