JOB PURPOSEThe postholder will work as a member of the refuge team, assisting the Team leader with general maintenance, repair, cleanliness and upkeep of internal and external areas of the premises; to keep the building and residents safe and to apply all health and safety measures.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
1To ensure high standards of internal decoration, furnishings, cleanliness / tidiness is maintained throughout the refuge building and safe houses.
2To carry out general premises maintenance duties and repairs at the request of the Team Leader or Charity Manager, and to liaise regularly with SafeNet’s Premises Maintenance Co-ordinator to synchronise relevant premises maintenance tasks and activities.
3To actively assist SafeNet to meet Health and Safety standards and ensure standards are observed as detailed in SafeNet policy and procedure, legislation and regulations. Actively take-part in Health and Safety checks on a weekly and monthly basis as required.
4The postholder will take a lead with premises maintenance work; however, they will closely work with other staff and volunteers to carry out the duties of this post.
DUTIES
- Ensure the cleanliness of the premises, working within the team.
- Carry out and complete regular health and safety checks on a weekly/monthly basis as per requirements, i.e. Fire alarm testing.
- Report health and safety concerns, as indicated in all health and safety policies and proceduresto the appropriate authority to action.
- Report damage / broken equipment / repairs to the Refuge Assistants and liaise with the appropriate body when on-site.
- To link-in with Refuge Assistants to schedule an annual timetable and ad-hoc internal/ external maintenance contractor visits. Further being present to accompany them around the building where possible, including PAT testing, fire risk assessments, Legionella testing etc.
- To bring relevant issues to team meetings, to offer ‘tool-box talks’ relating to the maintenance of the building, health and safety and manual handling training etc.
- Carry out minor maintenance and repairs e.g. changing lightbulbs, unblock toilets, set heating or communal lighting, getting keys cut, painting (small jobs) etc.
- Assist with laundry duties (cleanliness of bedding, towels etc) to ensure adequate supplies commensurate to level required at refuge and any safehouses.
- Assist with the preparation of rooms / flats and safehouses when residents leave to ensure rooms are in good order for when new residents arrive.
- Produce orders for replacement furnishings and equipment, which are authorised by the Team Leader and the Finance Team.
- To assist with the collection, organisation and the storage of donated food, clothing and other donated items that are provided to residents.
- Point of contact for refuse / recycling collections with the local authority.
- Assist staff and residents with the movement of furniture or other heavy items.
- Assist the refuge teamand encourage residents to maintain a safe, clean and tidy environment for all.
- Maintain accurate records (both paper and computerised).
- Assist with the archiving and storage of records.
- Purchase and co-ordinate stock of tea, coffee and other basic items.
- Any other duties at the request of the Team Leader or Charity Manager.
Other Responsibilities and Tasks
1To attend appropriate training courses, workshops or other events to ensure they are fully conversant with any statutory or good practice guidelines which relate to this role, within the resources of the refuge when requested to do so by the Team Leader or SafeNet Managers.
2To attend and contribute to regular staff / team meetings.
