Using AppalNet

The AppalNet is a link off of the main ASU homepage that contains important information such as class links, your ASU email, and other goodies you may need.

Getting to AppalNet:

1.Go to

2. Click on AppalNet at the top of the page

3. Put in your Username and Password

Once you are in AppalNet, there are many things you can do. The yellow tabs at the top of the page break up the site into these categories:

AppalNet Contains:

  • Announcements from ASU
  • News and Events on Campus
  • Links to Campus Resources
  • A calendar you can keep up with
  • Etc.

Class Links Contains:

  • A list of all the classes you have taken and are currently taking
  • A link to each class has:
  • A message board – you can post a topic or question to your class and professor
  • Your calendar
  • Course Chat – professors may use this as a discussion board
  • A link to your professor’s email

Student Services Contains:

  • Many different links but most importantly you can:
  • Get an unofficial transcript
  • Register
  • See the courses that are available
  • Change your PIN

Tutorial – Helpful Hints about the way AppalNet works

At the top right hand side of the page you have your E-mail link. If you do not regularly check your ASU e-mail, you can forward all messages sent here to another account you check regularly. To do this simply:

  • Click the E-mail icon
  • Click options
  • Click Auto Forward
  • Type in the e-mail address you would like your messages forwarded to
  • Click OK

The other icons at the top of the page include a link to your calendar, groups you may set up, where you log out of AppalNet, and a help link.

Discovery:

Spend some time exploring AppalNet and all it has to offer.

Application:

In your small group try out the Message Board and Course Chat features:

Message Board

  1. Click the Class Links tab at the top of the page
  2. Find your Spring 2004 classes and click on the LIB 5050 class
  3. Click Message Board
  4. Click Post a Topic and type a message to your classmates
  5. Then you can reply to each other’s messages or post new topics
Course Chat
  1. Follow the first two instructions from Message Board
  2. Click Course Chat
  3. Type a message and your classmates should automatically see it

The Whisper button allows you to choose one or more people to address. If you use this feature, only the selected people can see your message.
