HOUND CLUB OF EAST ANGLIA OPEN SHOW
SUNDAY 7th NOVEMBER 2004
A.V. IMPORT REGISTER
SPECIAL YEARLING (1)
1. Startup’s CHAHALA PAN. Segugio Italiano. Captivating b/t young man, probably the best of his breed I have seen in the UK. Very loosely constructed at the moment, but everything is in the right place. Lovely head with characteristic slightly curved bridge to nose, well set on neck, good layback of shoulder, squarely built, good bone and well muscled, moves freely and true. A happy showman and great ambassador for his breed, will watch his future with interest. Best AV Imp Reg.
OPEN (2)
1. Hamilton’s TRUGANINI AMELIA. Grand Bleu de Gascogne. Very well constructed bitch, skull a little wide and dry, lovely foreface and expression, good shoulders, length of body, good tailset and carriage, powerful hind quarters, really strides out on the move and looks made for the hunt. Will only improve as she matures and deepens in body. Reserve Best AV Imp Reg.
2. Startup’s CHAHALA MAY AT ANKORS. Segugio Italiano.
A.V. RARE BREED
SPECIAL YEARLING (7, 3 Absent)
1. Fenton’s DEBUCHER NE M’OUBLIEZ PAS AT BLUEWINDS. GBGV bitch, feminine well proportioned head and intelligent expression, good length of neck, well angulated front and rear, well presented in good coat, could do with more muscle on second thigh. Not happy when standing but really comes alive on the move, moves with drive and style, showing off her overall good construction. Res Best Rare Breed.
2. Longman’s KILCAVAN JUST WILLIAM. Hamiltonstovare – 6 months.
3. Longman’s KILCAVAN ANN OF GREEN GABLES. Hamiltonstovare – 6 months.
POST GRADUATE (4, 1 Absent)
1. Thorn’s BREQUEST ANTON. Basset Fauve, close decision between 1 & 2, this boy won on his movement. Typical head and kind expression, adequate front and rear angulation, level topline, well bodied. Would just like a bit more of him all over.
2. Sims’ TEDANDI MISS TEEQ WITH KULAPHUL. Hamiltonstovare.
3. Whitson’s KILCAVAN YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE. Hamiltonstovare.
OPEN (7, 4 Absent)
1. Johnson’s SWEETDEAN PINA COLADA OF HOUNDSLINE ShCM. Basset Fauve, quality bitch whom I have given a BOB to in the past, gorgeous head and expression, in excellent harsh well presented coat and well muscled, looking a little heavier over the shoulders today, but moves like a dream as ever, so lively and straight and true with real driving action. An easy winner of Best Rare Breed.
2. Summers’ CHYTON DOREE AT SLOBARA. Basset Fauve.
3. Court’s SILVAMOON MRS TIGGYWINKLE. GBGV.
RESERVE BEST OF BREED STAKES
This show always draws a quality entry and these Hounds were all of the highest order. I felt honoured to go over so many outstanding specimens, many of whom I am sure will go on to take their titles. I was spoilt for choice, but nevertheless found a clear winner in the absolutely outstanding b/t Afghan bitch, she filled my eye, so beautifully presented and so very typical of her breed, movement was clearly springy and so very stylish, an impressive outline, so perfectly and soundly constructed, fits the standard, one I could not fault. Later heard that she has a CC and Res CC, as well as her JW, on this form I am sure it can’t be long before she gains her crown.
1. Collyer-Todd & Collyer’s NAGAZUMI DOLCETTO KHARISAR.
2. Winsor’s BARBELKA FOREST. Norweigan Elkhound.
3. Painter’s clhannworthy anastasia from solstrand. Irish Wolfhound.
VARIETIES
A.V. SPECIAL BEGINNERS (7, 3 Absent)
1. Longman’s CLIFFMERE SKILFUL. Beagle bitch, appears too long in the loin and is therefore unbalanced, but has a typical feminine well proprtioned head, with pleasing expression and good leathers, straight front and rear, stands on good feet, level topline, good tail set, moves happily straight and true.
2. Long’s VINELKA MERLOT. Norweigan Elkhound.
3. Broughton’s BALLYPHELAN PENNY BLACK OF MONTISACRE. Irish Wolfhound.
A.V. BRACE (12, 7 Absent)
Impressive brace class, especially on the move, the five pairs presented keen competition, all closely matched, skilfully handled and well schooled, a delight to see. The winners were the most closely matched pair, similar construction, bone, colour and head properties, stood attentively to handler and moved as one.
1. Maun’s Norweigan Elkhounds.
2. Oakley & Abrahams’ Borzoi.
3. Longman’s Hamiltonstovare.
A.V. SCENT HOUND (14, 10 Absent)
1. Winsor’s BARBELKA FOREST. Norweigan Elkhound. Second in the Res BOB Stakes and stood out for me in this class, not surprised when I saw his breeding. Upstanding young dog, all quality, fabulous example of his breed, in good coat and condition, well shaped head, fearless expression from dark eyes, powerful neck and body, well muscled, firm legs, even movement, built for endurance, liked him a lot.
2. Graver’s MELVALLEY MIDNIGHT STAR. Min L/H Dachs.
3. Smith’s AFRICAN DAWN RITA. Beagle.
A.V. SIGHT HOUND (24, 16 Absent)
1. Gostynska’s BUBAS DESERT ORCHID. Basenji bitch, winner of a hotly contested class, beating into second a very immature but very promising Irish Wolfhound and a very nice Afghan Hound. This young r/w girl has a well shaped head, dark eye and good wrinkle when she isn’t flying her small and hooded ears. A very good outline in profile, would just prefer a tighter tail, but it is high set on her level topline with good shelf behind, very good front and rear angulation and she moves very soundly with swinging stride.
2. Simpson’s SHANIMARLE ALGENON.
3. Collett’s SABOUSH RAFFYK AT MHASUD JW.
A.V. VETERAN (23, 13 Absent)
Some superb dogs in this class, these veterans were a credit to their owners, definitely my class of the day, a hard decision to choose between the first three.
1. Longman’s THE MILLINERS MISTRESS. Hamiltonstovare bitch, 7 years old, in absolutely gleaming clearly marked coat and sparkling condition. Super construction, well proportioned, most lovely head and expression, good neck, well laid shoulders, deep body, straight front and rear, strong hindquarters, tight feet, moved really well, powerfully, freely and soundly. Well presented and handled, a pleasure to go over her.
2. Langman’s DIALYNNE APRIL SHOWERS. Beagle.
3. Gill & Marshall’s CH MEREDITH BIARRITZ AT MIAMARNA. Afghan Hound.
A.V. SPECIAL VETERAN (13, 6 Absent)
What an absolute pleasure to see these vintage Hounds, all happily enjoying their day out, presented in superb condition and a tribute to their owners.
1. Brooker’s CH EZHAR ANTIS BARAB. Pharoah Hound bitch, beautifully made, 10 years old and not surprised to see she has her title. Well shaped feminine head, attentive to handler, alert expression, good ear set and shape, elegant neck, deep brisket, good body and topline, is still upstanding on good feet, strong yet elegant bone and well muscled for her age. Is quite outstanding on the move even now, moving freely and effortlessly. A real show girl. Best Veteran.
2. Broadbent & Cooper’s KINDU MIDNIGHT BREEZE. Basenji.
3. Lake’s RAVENSTONE SILVER WEDDING OF MAUBREA. Norweigan Elkhound.
