The Clearfield News for September2013

“Home of the Cougars”TOGETHER WE CAN!

MISSION

Clearfield Elementary School provides an environment that focuses on positive I.D.E.A.S through Instruction, Differentiation, Encouragement, Assessment, and Support in order to achieve Proficiency in the Kentucky Program of Studies.

Welcome

We want to welcome our new staff: Mrs. Halliday--3rd grade, Miss White—5th grade, and Mrs. Lynn—Interpreter.

We also want to welcome our MSU 2 work studys, 1 student teacher and 12 PPN students. PPN students are education majors who are in their junior or senior year prior to student teaching. These students are in the school between 4-12 hours a week. They are assigned to homeroom or special education teachers.

Cougar Paw Parties

As students demonstrate expected behaviors in common areas, their home room can earn a Cougar Paw. When 20 paws are earned, the class earns a party. Below is the number of parties each class has earned.

PTC

The first PTC meeting of the year is Wednesday, September 4 at 4:00 p.m. in the school library. Thanks to everyone who participated in the address booklet fundraiser.

Attendance:

Our school attendance percentage goal is 95%. The first class to have 13 days of perfect attendance will receive an ice cream cake party. Parents may turn in 4 parent notes a year and any doctor/dentist appointments as often as attended. However, notes need to be turned in to the school office within 5 days after the absence. Students who arrive late or leave early are considered tardy.

Program Review

Arts/Humanities: Mrs. Greenhill has been working on the elements of line, color and shape. Students have work on display in the front stairwell—“Cougar Gallery”. The students in 3rd-5th attended the Lexington Children’s Theater play “Anansi.”

Practical Living/Vocational Studies: Coach Stokes trained the teachers on brain break activities.

Primary:Students are being assessed in reading on DIBELS and in math/reading on MAP. Kindergarten students were assessed using the kindergarten screener Brigance. Once assessments are completed RTI groups and K-3 “Walk To” groups will begin.
