Type of Scholarship
A college education scholarship is available for tuition and/or books at a school of the student’s choice. The high school senior from WalnutCommunityHigh School must be pursuing a degree in agriculture and be accepted as a student by the institution of higher education.

Who may apply?
Any Walnut High School graduating senior or recent graduate (within three years) who on the date of his or her graduation from high school, resides or resided within the geographical boundaries of the Walnut Community School District as of June 2009. Applicant must be pursuing a two or four year degree in agriculture, full-time or part-time (min. of 6 credit hours), at any accredited vocational/technical or educational institution or a college or university of the graduate’s choice, as selected by any impartial selection committee of the WalnutCommunity School District or its successors. However, it is specifically provided that, for a student that qualifies in all other respects except for residingwithin the geographical boundaries, the Selection Committee can submit a written request to the Omaha Community Foundationrequesting that an exemption be granted to this Student. The criteria for a Nash Scholar give preference to a student who demonstrates a successful academic career along with demonstrated community service spirit of volunteerism.
How do I apply?
Complete a Ryan Nash Endowed Memorial Scholarship application form; submit a copy of your current transcripts to the Walnut High School Guidance Counselor. Applications are available from the WalnutHigh School guidance counselor office or online at
What is the Deadline?
Annually completed scholarship materials must be submitted to your Guidance Counselor no later than March 31st.
What is the purpose of the Nash scholarship?
In making scholarship awards, the selection committee will take into consideration the donor’s intent to perpetuate thememoryofRyan Nash, a resident of the Walnut area, and to provide financial assistance to worthy students who explain in their application why they need the scholarship and how it will help them achieve their goals.
Who selects the scholarship recipients?
A designated scholarship selection committee selected by the WalnutSchool District and approved by the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa Advisory Board will select the recipients at an April meeting.
How isthe scholarship recipient notified?
The High School Guidance Counselor office will notify the recipient of their selection and school traditions of public announcements are observed. A packet of materials for the recipient is provided to the High School Guidance Counselor office. After successfully completing a first semester, the scholarship is paid to the student’s account at the educational institution that the student selected.
What are my responsibilities as a Nash Scholar?
Recipients must maintain a “C” or better grade point or the equivalent and send the Community Foundations of Southwest Iowa a copy of each semester’s transcripts along with a note to the Nash family describing that semester’s experience.
