«Kazan Civic Networking»

Kazan 2001

Dear Friends,

We are sincerely happy to welcome you to these pages. We want to tell you about ourselves, about the Republic of Tatarstan in which we live, and about our friends, colleagues and partners.

Let's begin to answer some simple questions:

  1. Who are we?
  2. Where do we live and work?
  3. What do we want to achieve?
  4. How do we work to realize our goals?
  5. What have we achieved?
  6. What do we expect as a result of our work?

1. Who we are?

We the PEOPLE: We are a society of people who has a burning desire to make the world and our environment better, kinder, more aware, and more sympathetic to the needs of humanity. We are united in this vision with our Moscow colleagues - Friends and Partners.

2. Where do we live and work?

We live in the city of Kazan which is located in the Republic of Tatarstan. The Kazan city boasts a population of more than 1,200,000 people. /
/ The Republic of Tatarstan contains people of many different nationalities and religions. People of the Orthodox, Muslim, Catholic, Protestant and Jewish religions live together in peace and interactive harmony.
The state sanctioned languages of our republic are Tatar and Russian. Because the working languages employed in our project's daily management are: Tatar, Russian and English. /
/ Kazan is a centuries old city, with a long history and a rich culture.
The citizens of Kazan want to change their way of life for the better. We envision a society where friends and neighbors support those in need and to the societal needs of a growing generation. /

3. What do we want to achieve?

We cannot achieve new horizons with old mind sets, but no one can deny us this aspiration. We want the opportunity to identify and harmonize the society in which we presently live, and to have it contribute to the world’s global community of mankind.

4. How do we work to realize our goals?

Useful information has always provided mankind with great societal riches. The last few decades has taught us, ever more, to appreciate the timely reception and practice of new ideas. Modern technologies allow us to repeatedly speed up and expand opportunities in the open exchange of information.

Therefore, using these modern technologies, we create a free civil network. From our point of view, it will allow us to increase our level of civil initiatives and improve the physical, economic and psychological health our society. We will draw closer to the realization of these ideals one step at a time.

5. What have we achieved?

To quote the words of a popular Russian song: "Moscow was not all at once constructed”, we work persistently to overcoming many technical problems. We labor to break the psychological, stereotypical thinking which has bound us for decades. Our efforts have gradually advance us in this treasured objective. One of our greatest achievements has been the task of inculcating the notion of a free civil society based on democratic principles.

6. What do we expect as a result of our work?

"The Comrade, trust: she rise,

Star of captivating happiness,

Russia respire from dream,

And on fragments of absolutist

Will write our names."

This a Great Russian poet has written. We need only to join its optimistic view.

Simply about involved

During our work with the project we tried to prepare ground for development active civil position. It concerns and to a hardware, development of necessary maintenance, but most important to change of psychological stereotypes. The experts of a high level: the doctors, teacher, human rights defense people, lawyers, builders, economists and other, gradually overcoming internal barriers, are poured to the world community by means of the Internet.

During last year our activity was aimed at strengthening of civic position. It concerns as well technical equipment, work on software and revealing psychological stereotypes. Experts in different spheres: doctors, teachers, human rights activists, lawyer, builders, economists and so on, getting over communication’s barriers, enter in the world community.

A striking example is Igor V. Fedorov, professor, Doctor in medicine, joined the project in 2000, and at present solves many professional problems by means of Internet.

Problem of informational isolation of people living in regions of the Russian Federation, in particular in national Republics of Russia is still topical, in spite of all efforts of project’s stuff. Public organizations test deficiency in reception of information. Program’s promotion will contribute to get over psychological barriers, especially it concerns not young qualified experts, could enrich information space by their experience. Also, the program is designed for young people, need positive examples.

On this direction active work conducts Mother Maria (Mrs. T.G.Borisova, candidate of chemical sciences, former senior lecturer KChTU). This organization tries to bring up young generation not only in spirit of Orthodoxy, but also to help them find good friends and to embody their skills and abilities here.. They works with teenagers and youth from problem families. We try to create a cozy and psychologically favorable atmosphere, which gives them an opportunity to spend time outside the houses, to communicate with the people of age without criminal bents, to enjoy pleasure and warmth.

Participating in the project, they enable children and teenagers to work in the Internet, to receive an opportunity widely to cover the activity and to involve attention in problems of the unprotected layers of the population the society of the world.

The ecological direction and work for protection of an environment in our project is headed the science director of Kazan zoo, candidate of biological sciences, Mr. A.V. Malov. As the man is sharp experiencing the irresponsible relation to a nature, he actively works with development of a line of the projects of protection of an animal and flora of Tatarstan Republic.
