OBJECTIVE:

TV Production News is a course that introduces students to the basic operation of running a daily live newscast. Students will be able to:

· Show knowledge of basic functions of a broadcast new show

· Understand the various jobs and tasks needed to perform a live news show.

· Demonstrate the ability to write scripts for a live broadcast

· Show knowledge of various camera equipment, sound, and lighting

· Exhibit knowledge of pre-production, production, and post production

· Be able to examine and analyze a production for corrections before airing.

· Demonstrate proper use of graphics and titles

· Exhibit knowledge of computer based video production and editing.

· Show ethical decision making

COURSE CREDIT

· TV Production News right now only earns Practical Art credit towards graduation.

CLASS EXPECTATIONS

●Students must arrive to class on time everyday and ready to work. (No later than 8:20am)

●EQUIPMENT IS TO BE RETURNED THE NEXT DAY BEFORE 8:30AM.

●Too many absences/tardies will affect grade.

●Students will treat other people, property, and equipment with respect.

●Cursing, verbal abuse, stealing, damaging property or endangering the well being of self and others will not be tolerated.

●Students will not text or use any mobile devices during class or in the studio.

●If any student does not abide by any one of the class expectations, they will lose the privilege to use the equipment and be put on bookwork.

GRADING

Student’s grades will be based on the following:

●30% of grade based on Daily Participation

●70% of grade based on Video Projects and outside filming

Student will be allowed to re-edit any video for a higher grade.

MAKE-UP WORK

Students who are not happy with the grade they received on any projects are allowed to re-edit a project for a higher grade. All make-up projects MUST be turned in before the week of finals. All written assignments must be turned in before each grading period when they are assigned.

EQUIPMENT

STUDENTS MUST RETURN EQUIPMENT THE FOLLOWING DAY BY 8:00AM. Students will be given the responsibility to check out professional video equipment necessary to produce broadcast/film quality projects. While students have equipment in their possession they will be responsible for the care of it. Students and parents must sign attached equipment contract agreement before checking out any equipment. Parents by signing this contract understand this privilege and responsibility for using equipment.

CLASS MATERIAL

Students enrolled in this class will have many opportunities to demonstrate the skills that they are being taught through creative expression. To offer as rich a program as possible, students and their families are asked to help with a voluntary contribution. Our goal for this class is a total of $2000. While your donations will go a long way toward helping us to provide the very best video production experience, no student will be precluded from participating in any activity based on whether or not he/she contributes.
