Conference Call Summary

DfE Packaging Chair, John Resslar, General Motors Corporation, called the conference call to order at 10:00am EDT with the following individuals participating on the call:

Mike Kendall, Delphi Corporation

John Bradburn, GM

Robin Richey, GM

Dave Duestenberg, JCI

Toby Buechner, Lear

Chris Pannecouck, Lear

Amy Goldman, SP

Courtney Hagen, SP

Mr. Resslar, GM, welcomed and thanked everyone for participating on the call. Ms. Amy Goldman, SP, reviewed SP’s antitrust guidelines and asked participants to mark in their meeting notes that the guidelines were reviewed.

Mr. Resslar noted that the purpose of the call was to develop an agenda for the DfE Packaging Work Group session at the 3rd Quarter Meeting. It was agreed during the June conference call that there would be member company presentations on packaging methods and success stories. These presentations are as follows:

  • Mr. John Bradburn, GM, on the use of alternate materials that consider end of life packaging and facilitate the reuse of products to make containers, etc.
  • Lear representative on a Six Sigma packaging study
  • Petoskey Plastics representative on its reuse of shrink and cellophane wrap
  • Delphi representative on its container sharing program
  • JCI representative on topic TBD.

Presentations should be up to 30 minutes in length, followed by 10 minutes for Q&A. One goal of this session is to generate potential links to the SP web site that discuss new packaging tools and practices.

Mr. Bradburn discussed a Goodwill container cleaning program in Flint, MI, which needs assistance from the automotive community after several of its contracts have fallen through. Goodwill employs individuals with disabilities and the underprivileged and it provides a very cost-competitive cleaning service. Mr. Rayburn hopes the members of SP will call Goodwill and look into their cleaning services to hopefully be of assistance to a worthy program. He will draft an email and send it to the SP distribution list.

NEXT STEPS/ACTION ITEMS:

•Mr. Kendall will send Mr. Resslar and Ms. Goldman an email of ideas for a Delphi presentation at the 3rd Quarter Meeting.

•Mr. Toby Buechner, Lear, will follow up with Ms. Rebecca Spearot, Lear, to find a Lear representative to present the Six Sigma project at the 3rd Quarter Meeting.

•Mr. Bradburn will send an email to the membership regarding the Goodwill container cleaning program.

•Ms. Robin Richey, GM, will send Ms. Goldman call-in information for the next Packaging Work Group conference call.

The next DfE Packaging Work Group conference call will be on July 21, 2004 at 10:00am EDT.

The call was adjourned at 11:00am EDT.
