Hi Craig
I don't know her payment method so I suggest you ask her and if there is a problem, I will help out.
The 1950 DN I can transcribe on Monday. The 1971 is at the Master's Office
Well, I did what you asked and phoned the MO. A very helpful guy looked up the file and gave me the DN details.Sadly, no parents names listed

Jennifer
Good morning. Not sure if you received the attachments to the email I sent earlier today.
I think this answers most of the questions from Tessa, so I have resent them anyway. It appears she may be able to get to the Pretoria side….can I arrange that through you, or should I find a way to pay her direct?....bit reluctant to post cash to RSA!
I really need the two DN’s of the WEP’s.
So the next step is how to go about it. Tessa though you may have the DN on WEP 1950….is this correct?I also want to get her to arrange through her contact to see if she can get the DN of WEP 1971.
As I am in Australia would it be possible if you could give the Masters Court in Cape Town a call to check what I need to do from here? Is this in regards to 1950, or 1971? I do not know what relation WEP 1959 is to me…I suspect he is either the son of Ignatius, or WEP 1971…..and I am leaning towards WEP.

Hi Craig
I to was in touch with Tessa for the same reason and am actually waiting for her reply with regard to William Edward who I believe his father was maybe Ignatius Pullen and then to follow up on that.
This is from Tessa, yesterday.
'Even with some of the DN's it has been difficult to place people correctly. There are two men with the same name i.e. William Edward. One died in 1950 (in the CapeArchives) and is the son of Johannes Stephanus Pullen and Sara Elizabeth Potgieter. The other died in 1971 and the file is in Pretoria and he is the son of Ignatius Johannes Cornelis Pullen and Hester Susanna Oosthuizen. This William was married to Sarah Louise Unknown. But I don’t think either of them are the one you are after as Ignatius was born in 1885 and Stephanus in 1877 so they could not be the father of William Edward born in 1888. So the plot thickens. Do you have the name of William’s father? SAG could of course be wrong. Wouldn’t be the first time. In this family so many have the same names it gets confusing.'
This is what we tell clients.
"I regret to have to advise that I do not any longer do research for clients at the Master's Office, Cape Town as they have clamped down completely on researchers accessing files for clients to obtain copies of Death Notices, Wills, Financial and other details of an Estate etc.
They now require applicants to fill in a security form with various questions to be answered asking for reasons why one wants access to particular files and on whose behalf this permission is being sought, and the applicant's relationship to the deceased has to be disclosed. Additionally, they want the actual reference number of the file quoted on the application form. This application then has to be forwarded by them to the Master of the High Court Office in Pretoria, and the latter will then give a decision and advise the Cape Town Office whether the applicant can be given permission to call up the file from the vaults in Cape Town. This also involves trips backwards and forwards to the Cape Town Office.
Under these circumstances and because new rules on force now, it would be necessary for you to contact them directly yourself and you would be required to sign the application form and answer the security questions and verify your relationship to the deceased.
Contact details for the Master of the High Court Office in Cape Town, which controls this
application procedure, is as follows:Postal address:
Private Bag X 9018Cape Town 8000(SOUTH AFRICA)
Physical address:High Court Complex, Parade Street, Cape Town, 8001, (SOUTH AFRICA)
Telephone. 021- 410-8300 Fax: 021- 461-9368 (or if no reply, then 021-410-9316)
As far as I know, they do not provide an e-mail address for the public to use for enquiries etc. (at least they didn't when I used to do research there, but you would need to phone them to enquire whether that situation has changed).
I hope this helpsLook forward to hearing from you. CheersJenn

Dear Jennifer,I have been in touch with Tessa to see if she can get the 1971 DN of William Edward Pullen. This is a copy of what I sent her:
My grandfather William Edward Pullen definitely died in 1971 in Johannesburg, and his wife was definitely Sarah Louise Williams (DN attached). My aunt Mavis Pullen is still alive and he and she are her parents…she was my mother Hilda May Pullen’s sister. It is his DN I am trying to source. I attach my mother’s DN which confirms this.
However the DN of Ignatius (attached) shows 3 children….my Aunt says there we 16 siblings in the WEP family…and she and other family have given me the names of about 10 of them. Ignatius died at age 32 so it would have been impossible to have had that many. There was apparently one set of twins according to my Aunt.
In suspect the 1950 WEP may be the son of Ignatius?....I would like to track down his DN. However he could also have been the son of WEP and Sarah Louise…see her DN.
With regard to my grandfather…my aunt gave me the information he was born on 13 June 1888 in Alexandria, Eastern Cape. I have nothing to confirm this except her word. However their MC (attached) says he was 21 in September 1910, so he was born in either 1888 or 1889.
According to her Johannes Stephanus was the father of WEP (husband of Sarah Louise Williams) and apparently JSP was born in 1855, and was christened at the Union Chapel, in Alexandria. She said her grandmother was Sarah or Sara Potgieter, but her memory is not totally reliable as she has had a stroke…however she has said this to me a number of times over the years.
I think it is now critical to track down the DN’s of these two WEP’s.
I have not received the DN of the 1950 WEP from Jennifer…I am not sure whether she has it as I have asked her to see what she can find.
I will send her a copy of this email and the attachments in case it can help her as well.
I hope this is of some assistance.I will forward additional funds to the UK when required.Craig
