Life in the Eyes of a Baker

The Baker well certified and trusted

Knowing all the finest secrets and ingredients

Praised by adoring followers,

Begins creating a masterpiece from basic ingredients,

Recipes summon specific ingredients,

Leaving an absence generates a disappointment,

A cake bereft of baking powder condemns itself to fall,

Deprivation of sugar and flour hatches tastelessness,

Each cake bears a special ingredient,

One that possess the opportunity to make the cake fruitful,

A talent bringing delight to consumers,

As preparations for baking transpire,

Cautiously and carefully plans are made to prosper,

Relentless beating yields a cake incapable of rising,

Take prudence in pouring and beating equally,

Promptly position the cake in the correct oven,

A cake baked hotter than acceptable destines itself to burn,

Hurried glances in the oven do not disclose all,

The cake’s Façade may be pleasant,

Masking the depreciation of the interior,

Hopefully reaching its potential,

The Baker dictates when it’s time,

Judging the taste and quality of the cake,

Ordaining its fate,

Few cakes attain approval,

Many suffer a desolate fate,

Abiding in the trash with other lost opportunities,

The surviving minority is decorated,

Better tasting attain beautiful guise,

Wanting consumers enjoy the final bites,

Even once gone the flourishing memories still suffice.

The conceit compares life to baking a cake. The baker in the metaphor is God because ultimately he determines the fate of the cakes. The basic ingredients represent the necessities of living a prosperous life. Examples of the necessities would be healthy relationships, salvation, a relationship with God, a prayer life, and knowledge of the Bible. Each cake has a special gift just as though we all have a spiritual gift which holds the opportunity to bring glory to God. The process of mixing and baking the cake are like the trial of our lives. Sometimes, we are beaten and discouraged that we turn from God. Many times, I have baked a cake that looked fine, but once I sliced into it I saw the damage. In the metaphor, not knowing how the interior of the cake looks represents how we do not know what is going on in someone’s life. Finishing the cake symbolizes dying because now it is time for the baker’s (God) judgment. Icing the cake is equivalent to receiving crowns for fulfilling your purpose on Earth. When the cake is eaten, that represents the acquaintances of that person’s life remembering his or her wisdom. Even, once those people are gone, if they were truly fulfilling their purpose we will still see his or her effect on his or her friends and family.
